Went to several while I was south of the border. It's like the national past time.

Never been to a dog fight. Kinda always wanted to see a bull fight.

So is animal fighting more abhorrent than greyhound racing?

Most of the guys that I've known that fight and train fighting birds treat them like prized possessions. And the rarely get sent to the glue factory like dogs and horses.

Eta: meant this to go on the OT. But frick it. Let's discuss animal rights.

Never been to a cock fight or a greyhound race.
But if I canoodle with the lab and the Aussie sees it there will be violence.

Yeah I think that intent is important.

For greyhound and horse racing, the destruction of an animal isn't the primary goal.

For cock / dog / bull fighting, the death of the beast is the primary "sport" and seems to be beneath the dignity of humanity today.

I feel we're essentially at that point with war as well (at least popular opinion in first world countries).

I've not

Animals don't have rights and it weakens us to give them rights.

Tried to get a friend to take me to a cock fight when I lived in SoCal but he said I was too white.

I have no interest in a dog fight. I love dogs too much.

I’d like to see a bare knuckle fist fight though.

While brutal, that'd be badass. Bear fights would kick arse as well.

Had a bunch of friends that used to go somewhat regularly when it was legal in Louisiana. They were pretty common in Henderson

Because we domesticated dogs and cats doesn't mean that have or need "rights"

There are still people in this world that don't have basic rights. Let's fix that shite and then we can talk about animal rights.

I have. Bet on a pumpkin (orange bird). The pumpkin lost and I had to pay a rotten teeth dude $20.

So, the reason dogs and cats don't have rights is because we domesticated them. OK, we domesticated savages. Why do they have rights and can vote?

Roosters rarely die in a cockfight. Too much money invested in the birds. Matches are normally called before death. If the bird puts its beak down there times, it's over. Or the owner throws in the towel.

I went to a few in Archibald back in the day. I put up a $30 entry fee for a three bird derby for a friend who actually owned the birds. He had never won anything. That day he won and we split a $300 pot. We gave the handler $20 a piece. Those guys are about as crazy as rodeo bullfighters.

Hell until very recently it was the sport of choice in Louisiana. The biggest tournaments with the biggest cash prizes in the world were fought just outside Lafayette in the Opelousas area. I remember driving from Houston to see my mom and crossing Louisiana in the late 90's. Decided to take a drive on HWY 90 and stop @ a local honky tonk for a few. There was a big road side sign outside this big joint that said COCKFIGHTS Tonight inside. Hell I went in. The front bar was typical. then through the door they were selling tickets to the fights and gambling like the Russian Roulette scene in The DEER HUNTER. Betting $3,4 500. on either the Red rooster or the gray rooster. Heck to balance it out they had some black ones too. Japs they called them. What a freaking scene. And there were easily 250 or more people with trucks loaded with roosters and stuff spilling out into the back yard. Only in South Louisiana!
