Yeah, those are for sparring. For the real thing they use steel spurs called gaffs. Think of them as curved icepicks.

Would not watch a spurred chicken or dog fight. Don’t mind the cap tease or final sword kill of the bull, but not happy with the roll of the picadores and banderillas. Thoroughbreds and greyhounds want to race. Gamecocks and game dogs want to fight. It's genetics. It's what they are at their core. The same way hunting hounds want to track game and labs want to destroy the neighbors garbage, I mean retrieve ducks.
But those bulls don't want to fight a man with a sword.

It used to be big In Vermillion Parish. Kaplan had a place on Hwy 14 and in Forked Island right over the bridge were 2 bars that had fights. People from all the state would invade on fight nights.
