Here’s a video of an Englishman touring Transnistria

It’s a self governing enclave of Moldova that hasn’t left the iron curtain. They have their own money, military, and government. The government is mostly unrecognized except for recognition from other unrecognized states. Here is their flag, which is identical to the Moldovan SFSR:

I bet they have big problems with epilepsy over there, with people seizing up looking at their own flag.

I would argue that the 1,000 + Russian soldiers and intelligence personnel make it a colony or exclave of Russia.

I hesitate to even say this, but it almost doesn't matter in Moldova. Inside or outside this enclave/exclave, they are poor as shite all over.

To describe Moldova - think of the United States and, of course, we have West Virginia (no offense). So, Imagine West Virginia blown up to the size of the United States and that it has its own West Virginia.

Okay, got that? West Virginia's "West Virginia" would be able to buy and sell Moldova. That's how poor Moldova is.

Good description except that Moldova is about the size of Southeast Louisiana and Transnistria is about the size of Ascension Parish.

Yeah, I was just trying to describe exactly how poor as shite Moldova is.

I think your size description is very accurate.

On Google Earth its size is deceptive. It looks bigger than it it's actual size because its long and narrow.

For those who find this interesting like me, here are the flags of USSR's Republics:

ETA: I am not endorsing or even supporting either communism or the USSR. I just find this interesting from an historical perspective.

Moldova is almost exactly 1/4 the area of Louisiana. Transnitria is a little smaller than Washington and St. Tammany Parish combined.

One thing the old SSRs have lying around (unfortunately) is remnants and drop-offs from the USSR's atomic age weapons and energy programs.

Sale of HEU & Plutonium(rumored) from the Caucasus is/was big business and a big problem for nations in the crosshairs of potential dirty bombers.

Had a big bust hit the news a while back and it was a fascinating read. Interpol and local law enforcement sting to buy Uranium paid off and the undercover buyer wrapped it in a paper napkin and carried it bare handed to preserve it as evidence.

Proving yet again that Eastern Europeans are absolutely stone cold fricking nuts, even the good guys.
