Toyota has a massive project on its hands with twin-turbo V6 repairs. More than 270,000 vehicles with the V35A-FTS engine have been recalled to date, with the only thorough remedy thus far being complete engine replacements. That remains the case for some Toyota Tundra pickups as well as Lexus LX SUVs, but now, the manufacturer will require many to undergo dealer evaluation with new inspection software to determine if their engines are actually defective.

I have been waiting for my recall engine for over a year for my 23 Tundra. Ridiculous at this point and when I go in for my oil change/service in the next month hell will be raised about there stupidity.

I bought a 19 Tundra with the 5.7. Has less than 40k miles. There's no way in hell I'd take a new Tundra with the turbo V6 to replace it.

This is why the price for used 4Runners before 2025 are through the roof. People don’t want to mess around with a 4cyl turbo.

Buy a 2021 Tundra, keep it maintained, and just be done with it. Cross buying another vehicle in the next 20 years off your list.

If it’s been running, no problem for over a year why does it need a recall?

At some point Toyota needs to just say frick it and re-release the previous model. The current model was a redesign and new powertrain that literally no one asked for. I know they can't/won't, but I think that's the only way to save this thing unless they really enjoy being distant 4th.

But man I really want a new Raptor. I know I should keep my 5.7 Tundra. But I really want a new truck.

Ha! I just bout a 2021 Tundra with 91k miles. I immediately brought it to a local Toyota dealer and had it checked out and some work was completed. That cost me $2k, but it's well worth it because I plan on keeping it maintained so I can keep it for 20 years. When I retire I'll replace it with something new but for now, that's my truck for a looong time. Unless I wreck it, the odds are in my favor. Those 5.7 Tundras are so reliable.

Newsflash - they have ALWAYS been a distant 4th until this model made them barely competitive again. It is outselling the old 5.7 truck by large margins, recalls and all.

Downvote away fanboys, you can't deny the sales figures.

I had a 22 Tundra 1794 I loved. Got the motor replaced (wasn't experiencing issues but toyota forced me to anyways) and immediately everything started going to shite on it. Electrical issues, driving issues.

Made em buy it back and got me a 24 Raptor R.

I loved the truck but am much happier now

The YouTube guy Dave's Auto Repair channel tore one down. Full of metal shavings. That's the guy with the diesel repair shop in Utah if I got the channel name wrong. It's more than a rebuild to fix that Toyota motor.

So you're going to go yell at somebody who has zero control over when the parts come in?

I'm so glad I have a Toyota with a naturally aspirated engine. I'm driving that bitch into the ground.

The reasonable life expectancy of a premium (Toyota) motor vehicle in normal service with appropriate maintenance is much more than one or three years.

With modern engines and the associated peripheral accessories, diminished life of them may not be easily measurable or observable at year one or year three.

Put my 2018 1794 with 65k into Edmunds.com. Carmax sent me an offer for $38400. Two years ago, Edmunds said it was worth $27000.

Saw a 2020 1794 with 65k for sale for $51000 on Carmax. Crazy.
