* I had an ‘08 Tundra that I drove for years before handing down to my teenage son. It had just shy of 300K miles on it when it overheated and my son thought it was ok to drive it a “few” more miles.

There's been speculation that the hybirds have a lower failure rate because of the way the hybrid system supports the ICE during higher load events that are starving the rear main bearings under quick load changes.

There's speculation building that the issue is a design flaw not quality control from the factory.
If it is actually the cam grinding on the bearings then a new engine is just a band aid.

Not too long ago, I remember many people in here complaining the old 5.7 was archaic & too thirsty. It’s too bad though that Toyota couldn’t design a more modern, fuel efficient v8 for the Tundra, GX & LX. My Wife’s old GX has the 4.7 & it’s a really good v8 too.

It’s a valid argument. They drank gas and didn’t make a much power. I like the power of the new v6, especially in a heavy pig like the LX. I just with they hadn’t fricked up the oil system design. I’m still happy I upgraded. The GX was to outdated and underpowered.
