Toyota has always been behind on features and such. They focus on reliability and quality.

The new gen batteries are more reliable than the older ones.

Based on your opinion? Because there is no empirical data to back that up. Manufacturer claims are just that.

Based off IE reports I’ve seen from several tesla projects I’ve worked on for both the cars and powerwalls. The failure rates have been reduced significantly.

Oh, he has the data.

He just can't/won't post it.

That data I can’t and only ever speak in generalities because these reports are confidential. It’s my job after all so I’m not going to blow it up.

But those lap times are in that video I posted for everyone to see.

Because of the batteries or better ways to manage the batteries? I could argue that the damn batteries in my Dewalts now are better now than the ones I bought in 2012, arguing that the 21700 vs 18650 cells but I also use newer chargers and the tools themselves are smarter when it comes to discharging them. Doesn't matter how you pretend, the core chemistry hasn't changed much, +/- some cobalt, and the only significant improvements have been made on the control side. There's only so much optimization though and new chemistries that offer the improvements required are all economical unfeasible for mass production. Even if a miracle chemistry was discovered it would still be an issue with charging unless high temperature super conductors are discovered too.

Both.

ETA. To elaborate on that. Much of the reliability gain is in the construction, qa/qc, control, thermal, conditioning, etc. I’m not implying that the chemistry is better that’s pretty much the same. I said the batteries are better, and they are. What’s driving that is coming from multiple angles.

What I have concerns with is how we are going to source all of this material for battery production, and how we are going to beef up our electrical grid to support Level 2 chargers at every home in 10-15 years.

We can't.
The technology is not there, and the FedGov trying to force it is only making matters worse.
