Toyota issues recall, stop sale on 100,000 Tundra pickup trucks due to engine failures

This is for the 2022-2023 Tundra pickup, which is popular among the OT crowd. I’m sure this will cause a stir since Tundra owners are a very sensitive bunch.
A lot of Toyota owners know about common main bearing failures with the new Toyota twin turbo V6 engine; it looks like Toyota may be finally ready to take action before the NHTSA forces their hand.
This is for the third generation Tundra only - the older V8 models do not have these issues. Normally Toyota makes a very solid truck, but this new generation of Tundra appears to be a reliability and quality nightmare. They’ve had major issues with turbochargers, transmissions, build/assembly quality issues.
Toyota Press Release
When the bearings fail, it ends up leading to a major repair that requires a total engine rebuild and a short block replacement. It involves a cab-off repair that can take several weeks. The repairs can total $20,000-$30,000 in labor and parts. It’s definitely not something anyone would want to deal with outside of warranty.

There is a possibility that certain machining debris may not have been cleared from the engine when it was produced. In the involved vehicles, this can lead to potential engine knocking, engine rough running, engine no start and/or a loss of motive power. A loss of motive power while driving at higher speeds can increase the risk of a crash.
Toyota is currently developing the remedy for this issue.
Owners of involved vehicles will be notified by late July 2024.
Information about automotive recalls, including but not limited to the list of involved vehicles, is current as of today’s filing date and is subject to change thereafter. To see if your vehicle is involved in a safety recall visit Toyota.com/recall or nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or license plate information.

It’s 22-23 not 21-23. The 21 is the 5.7 v8 tried and true. Also, GM wouldn’t recall but would deny there are problems.

They just want them back to sell to Iran.
Middle Eastern conflicts are good for Toyota's bottom line.

2024 models are failing too. They just aren’t recalling them. This is an open secret in the auto industry.
The new Tundra is garbage.

I hope Toyota tanks until they bring back the v8 and v6

I always liked the looks of their trucks but heard too many negative stories about them. Same with jeep vehicles. It’s a shame.

Basically the cost of a full sized truck 10+ years ago

Turbos are inherently less reliable over time and run hotter than a V8, not really great attributes for something that needs to tow.
