How to stop child molestation?

I can do it easy. Just give me the power.

Will you look up the article on Thad Gunderson, post it to your Facebook page, then have people call or put on social media the questions that need to be asked. It’s all public info

Uh, the power I’m talking about is just a bit more aggressive than your suggestion and I need more power than one person can give me.

If the church council and Deacon body are aware of these allegations and still allowed this individual to minister to youth, that's a huge problem.

Read your church bylaws and find out how to call a special meeting. Address your concerns openly in the meeting. Or meet privately with the senior pastor.

Otherwise, find some Dads who have daughters in the youth program and get their thoughts on the situation. Easy peasy.

Judging from what I can tell, he was on the staff of a church where a dude, who is described as mentally handicapped, touched several kids through their clothing sometime around 2007.

Looks like they tried to handle the initial incident internally after "inappropriate touching" was reported to them. Once they realized other kids were involved, they basically told the dude to turn himself in to police, which he apparently did.

quote:

Rice, the church's founder and senior pastor, said they had Lavertu come forward to the police and the church provided information soon after.

"We didn't have all the facts (regarding their obligations under the law), but we're not going to hide behind that," Rice said. "We weren't trying to hide anything."

quote:

Rice said one of the children's fathers came to another staff member last summer and told that employee that something had happened and that Lavertu needed counseling. The father did not go into detail beyond saying there was "some touching they didn't approve of," Rice said, adding that he personally had no idea it was sexual in nature.

quote:

The counseling was provided by a member of the pastoral staff who is a trained counselor, Rice said.

However, an alleged incident June 3 led the pastors to hold a meeting regarding Lavertu and ask other families if anything like that had happened to their children, Rice said. During those conversations, two other families told them that something inappropriate had happened with Lavertu and their children.

quote:

After they learned of all the incidents, the church talked with an attorney and gave Lavertu the chance to go to police himself, Rice said. The attorney told them that the counseling was privileged and they were not required to report the suspected abuse if Lavertu was making progress with the counseling, Rice said.

They were charged with a failure to report as clergy are mandatory reporters in Colorado.

No, I have no idea where you live, and no connection to the story. Try WKNY and WPSD. Find a local crime story in your local paper, send it to whichever staff reporter wrote the newest story you see.

Looks like the offender only served about 35 days in jail and was basically just sentenced to probation and counseling.

Being as this was 20 years ago, I can kind of understand why the OP isn't getting a lot of traction.

I understand stat too Sidewalk, but the thing is, he’s aware of a the rape of a child that I reported, and has done nothing about it. I’ve also confronted him and the other pastors and their legal counsel about all the unsafe practices going on in the nursery and childcare. They are short on staff, so a lot of men help out in the nursery. And the policy is that a man is ok to go help children use the bathroom Bull$shite. They also have members of the same family members working nursery. This place is a cesspool of enablement that won’t listen to anyone because a state senator goes to the church along with his lawyer son. They have tried to shut me down every way they can locally. So, I’m simply turning to every avenue I can to get this exposed the right way

To clarify since getting to this point has been a little confusing: the child rape you've reported (to KY CPS?) is completely separate from what transpired in CO 20 yrs ago?

what kind of lawyer sues churches for hiring this type of person.

I'll tell you what kind of lawyer rewards this kind of behavior- Todd Blanche, our acting AG. He moved Ghislaine Maxwell to a low security, "Club Fed".
And don't give me this shite that she feared for her life at her original prison.

Who did you report this too, and what can this specific man do about it?
