You're right, nothing is different doing it this way. Yet another win for Teedy. How do people like you exist?

Weird melt.

The "winners" here are the krewe members who want their traditional route... and most of them are NOT Teedy supporters.

You are using the rate they charge externally for details as a source for what it would cost the city to use them. How many businesses do you know that pay their employees their billable rate?

It costs the city more per hour to "rent cops" then it woud per hour to pay their own cops.

At the same time, the annual cost to the city for a cop is far more than the rental rate for parades.

Now, in exchange, we would get use of the officer for the entire year.

Are you under the impression the city is intentionally not hiring officers they could?

The reason they are at 900 officers is because people don't want to work for the NOPD. Manu reasons for that of course.

Also, I would guess that the city was going to make the krewes pay for it, but I'm guessing the city will actually pay it? I guess maybe since NOPD is so understaffed, there is a lot of unused money in the police salary budget?

Yes. They are using the money earmarked for staffing that part of the route to staff that part of the route.

If we are dense... it's because we are trying to make sense of what you are saying... but it doesn't make any sense.

72 officers to cover Magazine from Jefferson to Napoleon? Half that number would be plenty.

see that it said $75/hour which is nice but not worth the headache. If you had to actually make an arrest, you are almost on your own for a while due to streets being closed and the only officers close are on the other corners.

Idk, Mardis gras day parades don’t go into the night. It’s one day. And who says you got to make an arrest?

But frick doing all the other days/weekends.

Agree. Been watching Thoth near Henry’s for many years. No problems in that area. Mostly families. Always a good time.

Right? The Magazine stretch in between Jefferson and Napoleon is about as local as it gets.

I imagine the reason is close to this: I’ve been told that JP doesn’t want their cops going into Orleans parish at all due to the potential for liability if the cop has to use force under that shitty DA of theirs. This is the same guy who tried prosecuting someone who shot a trespasser on their property years ago even though it was clearly justified.
