I agree. Maybe I'm in an old school industry, but this does seem like a really odd conversation to have over text. I blame your boss as much as I blame you.

I am well and truly an old fricker.

I'm valuable and I don't think I'll be fired, but the serious talk will be serious. Just nervous about where to take it.
Just say you feel like expectations aren't clear/consistent enough.
That's a VERY common issue/topic in workplaces, tard.
You ain't getting in trouble. You're being a pussy.

This tells me that you have no hard skills.
Suck it up, apologize, and stay gainfully employed.

None taken, Artie. The calendar and the mirror don't lie!

Wow. A technical writer doing something stupid.
Who would have guessed!

I completely agree. When did this become ok? My employees text me time to time despite a firm no text rule, and they get no reply and a reminder of the rule.

I'd keep the conversation positive and come up with some goals for yourself and ask the boss if he has any other expectations / goals that he'd like you to be responsible for. The burden falls on you as an employee to make sure that you know what you are expected to do. The boss should tell you this anyway, but if he doesn't and you don't ask, you are setting yourself up for failure.

Are you an electrical engineer?

Communicating about work related issues with you boss is unprofessional by both of you. He should have called you at a minimum, you should have stepped up and replied to the text with a phone call. Now he has your rant "in writing".
Congrats! Home Depot has signs out that they're hiring.

He is a typically arrogant physics major that works on engineering projects that thinks more highly of himself than his worth. He honestly has a pure pussy millennial attitude even though I believe he is technically in the generation ahead.

I tried to be nicer than that, but you nailed OP

I work with pressure vessels and pressure systems and disposition in service inspection code findings based on criteria in build codes and NCS and CFR standards. I mainly deal with problems that fall out of engineering software programs and those that deal with fracture mechanics. I present the dispositions to management so decisions can be made on whether to replace or use as is.
All you frickers talk a good game, but I bounce very strange problems off mountains of code and do a damn good job.
I love the criticism, gurangoddamntee 99% of y'all couldn't fill these shoes.

I'm usually better at being flame proof, but it's been a tough week.
