Also, parents on the OT -

"man it sure is tough having kids sometimes, especially when they're home 24/7"

Single people on the OT -

"OMG WHY DID YOU HAVE KIDS IF YOU HATE THEM SO MUCH"

I have zero sympathy for people who complain about how hard it is to be a parent. You brought this on yourself. Deal with it.

You missed the whole point of OP's post.

Nope, he doesn’t have a fricking clue

I love my children more than anything in the world, however, as a man, I am not cut out to be a stay at home caretaker, and that’s the role that’s been forced on me for these past two months. With a VERY active 1 year old, I have very little alone time with my 6 year old. It’s almost like being tied to a post for two month, but you HAVE to still walk around in circles constantly while getting next to nothing accomplished

That isn't at all what I'm implying there. I had my children knowing they would be my responsibility, no matter what, for at least the next 18 years.

We can still address the fact that this isn't easy, or ideal. Or in the OP's case...hearing from his childless friends that they are bored.

Everyone's got a unique situation in what is a black swan situation. Some parents are more equipped for this (teachers, already working from home, with a stay at home parent). Others are trying to do the best at their 8-5 online while their other spouse still goes to work because they don't know if both incomes are guaranteed in the short or long-term. Some have received the help of a family member who said "f the stay at home order I want to see my grandkids".

I'm agreeing with you - his point was stupid. My quote was a joke, as if someone would say that when considering children.

My wife and I have been trying to have a kid for 6 years. We were supposed to do our final IVF this month but it got postponed indefinitely due to the quarantine.

While the nightly routine of drinking and watching Netflix is fun, we’d trade it in a heartbeat to have toddlers running amok around our house right now.

We have a 3 year old that went to "school" (uniform, daily routine from 8-3, etc.) so technically not a toddler. But was routine-oriented before turning 3.

And if you're attempting to go down your previous troll-esque posts of this is why we need more stay at home mothers; thus toddlers wouldn't have a different routine. You can start another thread or try it on someone else.

My son is 18m and used to running around daycare all day with 6 other kids his age, and the caregivers teach them songs, colors, etc.

We continued teaching those things (and still do with time at home) but you just can't replicate the stimulation and play of 6 other kids. He was bored as hell at home, nothing was holding his attention for more than a couple of minutes anymore. Toys, videos, parents, etc...Nothing. Now he's back in daycare and he comes home exhausted every day from playing with other kids.

ETA

In that vein, I think daycare is actually really good for kids. You can't reproduce the socialization and play at home. I know under normal circumstances a SAH parent could bring their kid to play at places and meet with other SAH friends and stuff, but it's still not the same. Also daycare has to be good for their immune system.

I'm sure it's stressful, having nonstop time with your toddler during a 2-3 month worldwide shutdown is probably a priceless gift you'll be thankful for for the remainder of your life.

I try to think about it this way to stay positive. But it's still stressful. Mine just turned 5 during all this, he hasn't played with another child since March 12 when the schools and daycares closed around ATL, and hasn't been anywhere but the house and the neighborhood lake. I feel as sorry for him as I do for myself. My wife is an essential worker so its just me and the kid and trying to do my job from home. I'm blessed to have that option. But it's still stressful, and I still resent all my friends and acquaintances on Facebook that don't have kids, and have guaranteed checks, simply treating this all like a vacation. They are so myopic. If it doesn't affect them, then frick everyone else.

I have 2 college students at home, one graduating soon. We have done so much stuff inside, outside, around the house, re-organizing, painting, yard work, etc. and we have time to toss a line in the water and walk more with the doggo. It’s actually a great time for us!

Over three years for us of trying here. No complaints of boredom. We all have our own paths in life though, so I try ignore when parents complain. Sorry to hear about the final IVF, that’s gotta be extra tough on the wife going through that process unfinished. Hang in there! Hopefully you can move forward soon.

This childless person right here has no complaints. In fact, I'm damned thankful that I DON'T have someone that I'm having to entertain/feed/teach during all this crap

Definitely grateful that we did not have a kid right off the bat after getting married last year. Got a labrador instead, way more fun to be locked down with. I guess the wife is ok as well.

Good luck man. My wife and I went through failed IUI's, failed IVF's, and miscarriages before finally having a son. We were just starting to discuss when we would use the last two we have on ice when we were surprised with our second boy the old fashioned way
