With the advancements in LED light technology, they could do some pretty cool things with that bridge.

String the lights top to bottom, and you could do some crazy stuff for various holidays such as Mardi Gras, Independence Day, etc., and LSU games.

Something like this.

The project is going to bring in three big cranes to remove, lower, treat and then replace each piece of limestone. While this is going on, any of the underlying concrete and steel in the exterior walls which needs some repair work will be handled at that time. Once they get below the observation deck and into the level of offices, they'll do 3-4 floors at a time, with the workers on those floors being re-housed somewhere else until their floors are done.

After this has been completed can we put a giant condom over the capitol building to 'protect ' it ?

Hopefully they are already working on fixing/replacing them???

The study will conclude in July to determine who determines the project scope.

The work order says to install the lights, not to check them or anything requiring initiative and common sense regarding their use.

How much of the state capital building is built of or faced in limestone?

With all the rainfall Louisiana gets, and some of it at hurricane wind speeds?

Even up here in Tennessee with less rainfall, anyone with kin in an old cemetery has seen the tombstones from the early 1900's and earlier crumbling from the erosion of limestone over the years.

Only in Baton Rouge where the “new bridge” is 60 years old.
Y'all shat on Shreveport constantly (for good reason) but at least it has several bridges over the Red River, including a much needed new Jimmy Davis Bridge being constructed now. It has nice parkways on either side of the river &………LOOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, 3132 & 220. Now, how did Shreveport get all of that funding decades ago, when BTR, the capital did not.

There are so many examples of things that do not work and it makes me wonder who is getting paid for these things that fail in a very short period of time.

For anyone who travels the atchafalaya basin bridge, have you ever seen the “Your Speed” signs working? Whose brother in law got a contract to install something that never worked?

Entergy's responsibility to handle maintenance of highway and street lighting although IDK exactly who does the ones you are talking about.

But like half of all street and highway lights are out statewide.

I mean eventually light bulbs have to be replaced. Brush has to be cleared from power lines. Roads have to be patched and re-striped.

Between LADOTD and Entergy - this whole state looks extremely neglected.

I can't even see the lines on the highway on the concrete parts of US190 between Baton Rouge and Erwinville. Same for parts of I-10 in Ascension. None of the reflectors are there and it wasn't because of the snow plows last year - they've been missing for 5 years.

Every light on the I-110/US 190 interchange was out for 5 years before they fixed it. And now most of them are still out around Harding/I-110.

Then we have highways that are both neglected from a maintenance perspective but also functionally obsolete..... like LA30 south of LSU all the way into Gonzales. Or I-10 in most of the state. Or at least 60% of I-12, which is still 4 lanes despite decades of heavy traffic. Or US190 through Livingston. Or LA3127 not extending north past Donaldsonville. Or the lack of any inside or outside shoulders on I-110. Or like 30 other glaringly f*cked up stretches of highway and roads that are holding our economy back.

Yeah I know you are joking but it's been a year since the blizzard that resulted in plows ripping every reflector and most stripes off of the pavement.

I know it takes a while to build a new highway or bridge, but these are fricking reflectors and stripes. It's maintenance. Why is LADOTD so incompetent as an organization? Why can't they produce results?

While we are pressure washing - either pressure wash or paint the freaking concrete walls lining I-10 and I-12

This is something that should happen more often than once every 30 years.

Sort of like brushing the grass and broken substrate/gravel out of the gutter and off the shoulders of our highways.

We shouldn't have to call in a favor with an elected official for LADOTD to do their job. Same with having Entergy replace fricking light bulbs on their poles. No other state I've lived in works like that. Just Louisiana.

Not sure. I moved from BR over 30 years ago. I bought a house in Ascension Parish in '93, moved to Houston in '98. We hove three loops in Houston now. But there are 4+ million in HTX metro now.

The state capitol might be allergic to latex. Combination of latex and limestone may turn into a blood red color leading to a ton of scratching. The building may fall apart faster.

On a side note with the Capitol turning a hundred years old with such "problems," maybe Landry can be the architect for a new State Capitol Building even taller than this one with wider floors and modern elevators that will take you all the way to the observation deck without that transfer skylobby to the smaller elevator. Plan the building to be 535 feet tall, which is the height of Driskill Mountain. Instead of Limestone, use granite or marble.

The Governor's office can be on the top floor with a special elevator that only goes to that floor. Governor can have a helipad on the roof. The only issue is that this will likely be a billion dollar project, that the state doesn't have the money to spend on.

And in true Louisiana fashion, the new capitol building will be built keeping the old building, but the new building will be perpendicular to the structure, on the east side of Capitol Gardens and existing building turned into the Lt. Governer's offices and added as a museum.

First few lower levels will be parking garages for state reps and senators, Governor, and staff. A larger Senate and House chambers would be above the garage structure. A new rotunda will greet visitors in the lobby between the chambers. Committee rooms will be on the levels above the chambers and other offices will occupy the spaces above until you get to the Governor's Office on the top floor.

Isn't there a bare breast on the state capitol building now? Maybe they can add something similar on the new one too.
