re: To over 45 years old, crime & murder rate is 1/3 compared 70s-90s. It's not worse, better.

Murders are down but shootings are probably up. Getting shot back in the 70s-90s was a death sentence but advances in emergency medical/trauma care are helping victims stay alive.

crime rate goes down if there are less cops to call and write reports?

Now that's progressive thinking !

Maybe you’re right, but the lawlessness in big cities will lead to worse numbers.
Posted on 5/7/23 at 6:14 pm to USMCguy121
it’s a statistical fact, crime rate goes up if there are more cops on duty that observe violations and make records of them

Half of the murders in the past 3 years were classified as covid deaths.

Crime is a localized issue. I don't care what the crime rate is in Beaumont in a vacuum. It's way higher where I live than it was 35 years ago
Louisiana violent and property crime is down since 2000 as well.

No worries, people are killing themselves at record rates to make up for it.

That might be the case but again, it's a localized problem. If crime goes up 1000% next year in Bastrop it really doesn't matter to me. No offense if you live in Bastrop. The most violent year of all time where I live was 2021. 2022 was #3

We had more serial killers in the 80's. But didn't have mass shootings in schools and super markets.

1. I don’t believe those numbers.
2. Do you think people feel safer and more secure now?

I think it shot up in the Eighties because of crack. They killed themselves off.
But not before they reproduced young addicts.

I had to google deaths of despair- seems like it is also suicide and alcohol/drug related I still do not understand the difference but I did not do an in depth study just looked at the first hits on google.

Tough to make the point you think you're making with all pre-covid numbers my man.

Couple factors
The GWOT has exponentially increased survival of life threatening treatment/care of gunshot wounds. Shootings would be a far better metric.
The "no noticeable increase in crime since the pandemic" metric is a complete farce. Those stats are based on convictions. Most DA's in major cities have dismissed or pled down a massive percentage of crimes (I assume these stats are based on convictions of certain crimes). Also, the cops aren't arresting near the amount of people they were 10 years ago due to being understaffed or after being instructed by their bosses not to do so.
Anyone living in major American cities will freely tell you that crime is far more prevalent than before the pandemic.

I think Deaths of Despair on that chart is just the other 3 combined, given you a total out of 100,000

And where does medical advancements factor in your Murder stats?
If prosecutors no longer prosecute lower level crimes, how does that affect your crime stat?
And if the majority population is committing less crime, would that offset the increase in other ethnic considerations?
