Did the passengers died instantly or would they have had a few seconds to realize what was happening?

Everyone that was in that tube died instantly… the only thing that will remain a mystery is… did the hull/other parts of the structure begin to creak and moan before they became a pink mist… if so, they probably had a little bit of time to realize it was about to be all over before the inevitable.

What if the kid lost it?

What if? The carbon fiber hull wouldn't shatter into a million pieces because someone inside had a panic attack.

Yeah, I'll take a controller that takes years of abuse by a 10 year old over a prototype that has the same functionality.

Maybe it lost Bluetooth connection or didn’t have back up batteries…

Logitech’s stock took a small hit from the news it’s controller was used before going back up. I assume someone rich who knew recording was definitely submersible’s implosion or just had sense enough to know this was never going to be Logitech’s fault got a little richer.

I’ve seen a few times in this thread people saying it’s no big deal he was using a PlayStation game pad to pilot the thing because militaries around the world use them. However, I’d like to point out that the military isn’t offering deep water joy rides to the paying public. It’s one thing if you’re piloting a drone from a desk, it’s a completely different animal when you’re 2.5 miles down in a dangerous ocean environment. Furthermore, it’s been reported that they were struggling to control the subs rate of decent. Had they had a proper control system in place with all the proper fail safes, it’s possible they’d still be alive today. The bottom of the ocean is the last place on earth you wanna test the reliability of a mass produced Chinese made pos game pad.

It might if he started banging on the shotty port hole.

Was more interested in knowing if they were psychologically or physically able to make this trip.

Is it not a little bit odd that given that it was almost certainly an implosion that they haven't found the remains of it yet? They knew generally about where it was when they lost comms so it stands to reason that the bottom of the ocean around there would be a good place to start.

Hell, if anyone was above where it happened, they'd have seen a roiling surface for a bit.

The crazy part is the owner had to know all the issues and still went in this thing.

If that little sub has settled on the bottom and imploded, it would not make any discernible roiling on the surface of the ocean roughly 2 miles above.

The coast guard found debris of the sub 1600 ft from the Titanic and confirmed an implosion.

The passengers are fish food at this point and will never be found.

Bodies were probably almost completely disintegrated

So what would be causing the sounds in the beginning? Appears to be a signature for 10mins or so.

Obviously there were two events, not sure what the first was.
The second was the hull being destroyed.

I'm not an expert in the field, but I assume the detection time intervals don't represent a 'literal' event duration.

More like a version of this vibration:

Indications are they had 18 minutes notice. The seismic sensor plotted the developing disaster. Apparently they knew something was wrong.

WSJ (behind paywall) just announced the US Navy disclosed they heard the implosion when it happened

Good explanation here...

quote:

Catastrophic Implosion of a submersible explained:

When a submarine hull collapses, it moves inward at about 1,500 miles per hour - that’s 2,200 feet per second.

The time required for complete collapse is 20 / 2,200 seconds = about 1 millisecond.

A human brain responds instinctually to stimulus at about 25 milliseconds. Human rational response (sense?reason?act) is at best 150 milliseconds.

The air inside a sub has a fairly high concentration of hydrocarbon vapors.

When the hull collapses it behaves like a very large piston on a very large Diesel engine.

The air auto-ignites and an explosion follows the initial rapid implosion. Large blobs of fat (that would be humans) incinerate and are turned to ash and dust quicker than you can blink your eye.

It's like 6000 psi where the Titanic is. Do you think some kid's fist can cause more harm than 6000 pounds of pressure per square inch?

So do we now pay to haul pieces back up, or does it just become part of the next tour?

The typical ot response to reading that..."So no survivors?"

Or "Do you think they knew what was happening?"
