I found it interesting that Discovery Channel's Josh Gates was scheduled to dive on one of these trips and backed out. Gates stated something to the fact that he had serious concerns about the entire operation.

I guess the silver lining is - future tours can incorporate this debris into the tour.
What? Too soon?

I hope they died quickly but beyond that I’m struggling to feel bad for them at all no matter what they were told.
If this thing imploded like they are now saying happened with finding debris of the submersible, then they were dead before their minds even registered there was a problem.

What a rare situation. Well it is a fact that there were four electric thrusters and powered by a battery. And it's been reported that they turn off the lights during the start of the decent. So this gives so many questions. Guys? What do you guys think these three men were saying and experiencing while the sub had been descending fast and out of control? Omg so hard to imagine.

Those men were dead in nano seconds. They had no idea.

Supposedly ol Stockton had some acoustic hull monitoring equipment onboard so there is a reasonable chance that they knew they were fricked before it let go. There very well could have been very audible and visible signs it was failing well before it did.
There's some indication on the plot from newfoundland that there were two separate events. There was also a mayday sent up from the sub before they lost coms I saw someone say.

What a clusterfrick. Maybe his non-old-white engineering team can make a new sub out of another dumb material

The implosion plus the bubble.

I mean it’s sad that these people died. But it’s terrible that this asswipe and his jerry rigged subbed has tainted the area of Titanic. Just like all those fools dead up on Everest.

Stockton Rush was worth about $12M. So yeah, not a billionaire
I was definitely wrong. I was under the impression he was a billionaire. Some how, learning he was only worth approximately 12 million makes it worse for me. This guy really didn’t have the resources or the expertise to be anywhere near a project like this. He was in way over his head and it cost people their lives.

What is your flavor preference of paint chips, baw?

Hopefully they'll do a deeper dive on safety next time

He was plenty smart enough to understand all of that and get plenty of outside help. What we can tell now is that he often refused the expertise of others. That was his flaw.

Any chance Hank Johnston will lead a congressional inquiry into this?

How? How in the cornbread frick do people like this get so wealthy? Who the frick gives them the money?
Ride the wave. Current wave is AI.
I know someone who has millions in VC money that uses some variant of OpenAI to write “legal documents” for landlords. You can just use the free version of chatgpt and get 90% of what his business does. It’s just him, a dev, and a lawyer.

Now who gets the bill for the search operation by the Coast Guard and Navy?
Oh wait….you and I do as American taxpayers.
I guess there’s the prospect that it was good practice for those type operations if ever needed.
