re: Tipping thread. First time I've seen the request for a double tip

Tipping at Pelicans games annoys me. When you check out it has 3 different tip options or press "skip" as they stare at your selection. Don't really want to tip on overpriced concessions.

Union Ramon added a 20 % for a large group (5) and then at the bottom had the 15, 18, 20 % options on the bill

Right, so its the restaurant and not the staff just being greedy for tips.

More likely scenario is that's just the default settings for the receipt printer that's attached to the payment system on their tablet register, and it has no way of communicating with whatever software they use to place online orders.

I've worked with a number of them on the security side. It's a design that is customizable by the restaurant.

The credit card makes it easier for you, not for them, hence why it's called a convenience fee.
It’s easier for the person at the counter as well. They don’t have to take cash and pull out the exact change and hand it back. The card transaction is just a line on a report that gets looked at each month.

I love making eye contact with the subway worker as I push "no tip" on the credit card machine.
Fricking ridiculous.
That and donating money at checkout like at Petsmart.
"Would you like to donate to the save the animals foundation?"
Yeah Id like to donate money to them through you so you have a tax writeoff.
You're such a good person.
frick you.

This is more likely just competing settings and not intentional.
If OP had normal suggested tip amounts the second time, it's more likely to be a random default. When it's adjusted like it was, it's an intentional setting that is an attempt to get the take out worker a small dedicated extra tip beyond the original tip which is usually pooled.

For your big win over someone making minimum wage, they just think (correctly) you're a douche for 10 seconds and move on.
Not tipping at Subway, I get. Wanting to make it a point to the staff you aint tipping them, just means youre a tool.

If I see a tip line I just write in "buy low, sell high"

First time I encountered a “second tip” was in Charleston last summer. The main tip line was for the servers and bartenders (brunch cocktails), but the “second tip” was specifically for the Kitchen Staff.

This. These threads always bring out the oddest people (or emotions in people). Tip or don't tip, who cares, but stop acting as if you're taking some meaningful societal stand. Also, being a cheapskate isn't a virtue.

Naw, your generation just sucks.

ETA: 68 boomers who are too dumb to understand modern CC payment systems downvoted this comment.
Well, I'm 61 and the first thing I thought when I read the OP was that it's just how the receipt prints out. Nobody is gonna go to the trouble of changing that. Plus, they still have people that are walk ins, call ins, etc and need that line on the receipt.
People are just looking for something to complain about. How about just leave the line on the receipt blank and don't worry about it.
It's the same with a lot of the Square credit card systems. They come set up that way and nobody bothers to change it. I put in the tip I want. It might be $1 or -0- or 20%.

My new favorite game is asking if I get to subtract the tip if I came to them to pick up the food. It was an Asian lady and I don't think she was picking up what I was putting down. She just asked if I have a girl friend in Vietnam.

I stopped by Rosa's Cafe last night and I can't tell you how nice it was when the guy spun the tablet around for me to pay and there wasn't a single place to add a tip.
