What pisses me off is say take out Chinese food, or a drive through donut shop. Why am I tipping?

Just curious
If you didn’t drink alcohol and had a water or soft drink your bill is sig less abs waitress did same amount of work.

inflation is real.
get used to it. it's going to get worse before it gets any better.

Driver tip for delivery is reasonable but I don't order food much.
The 20% suggested to go order tips are absurd

Getting food delivered to you, using someone else's gas, putting miles on their car, and using their labor is a luxury.
If you can't tip, don't use the service. No tip, no trip.

People are just poorer. Don’t order greasy takeout and expect it brought to your dirty doorstep gratuitously.

20% tip to drive it to you is more reasonable than 20% to walk it back and forth from the kitchen IMO

I work for Waitr. However, I do not use Waitr personally. I just live in a part of town that most restaurants are close and easily accessible. So, I will just call the place directly and go pick it up myself.
If you use Waitr, make sure you have notifications turned on, because literally every single day they send out a code that will waive delivery fees. The markup on menu prices is 100% on the restaurant, they make that decision. The markup is because Waitr takes a % cut of the order total. So, the restaurant makes up for it with a slight price increase.
When you place an order and a driver accepts it, they aren't just magically sitting in the parking lot of where you happened to order from. They have to drive there, and often wait there for a bit before your order is ready. Then, they have to drive to wherever you are.
If you order from somewhere that is a decent distance or from somewhere that is known for taking an above average time to get your order ready, drivers will not accept it unless its worth it. If I see an order from a place I'm close to and the drop is close, I'll take it even for no tip. But no one is going to accept an order that they will lose money on.
Yes, dining inside a restaurant for someone to wait on you and tend to your table during your dining experience might be different. However, depending on circumstances your driver might spend the same amount of time to bring you your food as you would have sitting a a table inside. You aren't tipping them for "handing you a bag." We don't just teleport around magically and pass out bags of food.
If you don't like it, there is an easy solution...get in your vehicle, use your gas, and your time, and go pick it up. Delivery is a convenience, and that's why it costs more.
All that being said, yes, 20% is a good tip, depending on the delivery. Where I live and work we have a large delivery radius however, so I will pass on some of those knowing I can do 3-4 deliveries in the time it takes to take a single order unless it has a really good tip.
Like I said, if using Waitr, turn on notifications. Literally every single day there is a code for free delivery. Yes, it will still be more expensive than calling it directly in for pick-up, but its something.

It sucks honestly because the delivery guys don’t see shite from all those fees hardly
Nope, DoorDash marks up the food itself, charges an outrageous delivery fee, and skims the driver's tips

Delivery apps fricking blow. I despise those and refuse to use them. The food is always cold and shitty by the time it gets here. If and when the restaurant fricks up your order, it’s too late once you find out. You are paying damn near twice as much as you would otherwise

If you low-ball the tip, drivers refuse to pick it up. The driver declines it. The offer goes up by 25 cents and is offered to the next driver. This cycle usually continues til the driver is getting at least a dollar a mile or $5 which is what Waitr pays base per delivery.
Sometimes your order sits for an hour. Sometimes nobody picks it up.
In the bigger cities, drivers won't even move for less than $2 a mile

Leo Getz was well ahead of this trend.

So $5 base delivery plus $10 tip on a $50 order....
Driver is getting paid $15 for about a half hour of work.

I can't speak for other delivery services, but that's not how it works for Waitr. The $5 minimum is to kinda make up for no-tip orders. If you tip $10 on an order the driver will get $10. It isn't just added on top of the "guaranteed minimum."

I'm not greedy - But I'll take your generosity. But the only thing I'd get is the $10. Most of my orders ( in a small town ) come to about $6, and I'm very pleased with it. If I can do 3 of those in an hour, it's a great day.
I'm an old retired Army Vet. I'm supplementing my income. If it keeps my old arse out of the factory, I'm happy. But I do have my minimums to maintain my vehicle and pay for my gas

Doordash got sued for it a while back and quit I think.

DoorDash base pay is $2.25. That's why I Waitr now.

They've had 3 major lawsuits for skimming drivers' tips...
