We have large Spanish tile in a keeping room, connected to kitchen. Since we have large dogs, we spend most of our time in the kitchen, and the sitting room. Large dogs are hell on antique pine floors

Spanish tile seems fairly popular again. Not sure people are putting new spanish tile in, but people are ripping up those floors less, I think

It seems to me that things that imitate other materials are usually laughed at a decade or so later.

Salvaged cypress is the only the only flooring acceptable in a living room, imo.

Cypress is way too soft. But it does make a fine looking floor.

My house...

Marble tile in the bathrooms

Brick in the living room

Don't know why, didn't build it, but with a huge rug it ain't too shabby

I have wood looking tile throughout the house with well placed rugs.

Much easier to clean and I’m single and live alone and have friends over for drinks so it’s nice to easily clean up beer spills and such rather than deal with carpet

That's reasonable. I wasn't knocking it as much as I was asking about the logic.

I say trashy. Tile is for kitchens and bathrooms only. Only exception IMO is wood look tile.

Although I would prefer wide plank Heart of Pine, my 3 large 80lb dogs would tear it up. We chose wide 3’ wavy wood appearance porcelain tile. Works well for us and most people think it’s real wood.

Wood looking tile in laundry, tile in bathrooms, brick in foyer, den and kitchen, parquet in dining room and oak everywhere else.

The wood-look tile is one of the best home innovations in the last 50 years. However, these people filling their homes with washed hues of white/grey will definitely be outdated in 10 years.

This look will always be timeless. The key is 1/16 grout like and matching the grout color to the darkest color brown in the tile.

I won’t call it trashy - but I hate tile anywhere. It’s not as nasty as carpet ( ) but grout is hard to keep clean and in Louisiana homes, it often crumbles.

Sealing the grout once a year pretty much makes the floor indestructible. Spill a pitcher of water on an expensive wood floor and unless you catch every drop right away you’re going to have warped boards. Don’t get me wrong, wood is still my favorite but with a pool, 2 kids, 2 dogs and a cat the wood look tile was an easy choice.

Why would you care about someone else’s flooring?

These days many folks don’t have a living room and a den.
