I say trashy. Tile is for kitchens and bathrooms only. Only exception IMO is wood look tile.

Yeah I agree. Not a fan of tile other than a kitchen or bathroom

How about do what you and your mom like?

When you get one, you can ask your wife.

I have seen some travertine recently that looked sharp as hell...not sure whether you would consider that to be "tile" though.

Makes for easy clean-up after weekend orgies.

Hard on the knees though. You'll be in serious pain by 40

Travertine is awesome. Not trashy at all.
I’m mainly talking about square ceramic tile in the living room. That’s trashy as hell.

Salvaged cypress is the only the only flooring acceptable in a living room, imo.

I'm not a tile fan. We have it in our kitchen and laundry room and everything you drop explodes into a million pieces and flies 15 feet away

It's a common thing in beach houses. I'm not going to call someone's house in Destin trashy when I don't own one myself.

In an open concept plan it's trashier to have an arbitrary flooring transition rather than just stay consistent.

Subtle “I don’t have dirt floors” brag noted.
