Tigerdroppings vs Reddit

It seems to me that TD could easily become the new Reddit, maybe get publicly traded etc. Reddit is embedding ads and I think TD has been doing this for yours. A poster just said this on Yahoo Finance and it made me think of TD which I really like as a site to discuss very specific things and learn from you guys:
(Yahoo Finance - Rick) I use Reddit all the time - as an actual adult. It is a great place to actually discuss things and learn stuff. Don't like the politics, stay off the politics subreddits. Reddit's strong point is it's ability to have discussions on very specific topics. Want to know what the best bird food is - reddit is the place to ask. What to know how to build a table DIY - no better resource than Reddit. Looking for political debate or hot babes - that's all there too. But unlike social media "feeds" that tend to push agendas - Reddit is about being organized by topic and all by user up/down votes.

The amount of bs on reddit is pretty crazy. You become dumber if you read reddit.
They also dont allow much dissenting views.
I can say, let's not put porn in the school libraries on TD.
That got me banned on r/Louisiana.

Or youtube, or wiki how, or any diy website like woodshop diaries.

TD is Reddit for people who hate gay and brown people.

its the liberal equivalent of TD in that aspect..
if you want to learn how to do something, see how others do something, etc..Its great for that sort of thing..

What makes TD great is the balance. It has enough traffic to keep moving, but not so much that every topic gets buried. It’s got enough people to have some diversity of thought but it’s also small enough to still be somewhat intimate and community oriented. It’s small enough that the trolling is controllable with basic content moderation which keeps the blatant porn and n-word bombing out while keeping discussions from becoming too much of a circle-jerk. I also love how regional it is. The fact that a plurality of the user base lives (or used to live) in the same metro area makes TD feel homey. The fact that they’re mostly all united by a love of college sports also helps it to feel almost like a real community. I run into OTers in my daily life on a regular basis.
I think TD could benefit from a larger user-base, especially if it could get back to having more college-aged students at SEC schools again, but I wouldn’t like to see TD get too much larger than it currently is. A larger TD would require much more moderation, which would inevitably lead to the same sorts of echo-chambers we see on reddit where mods get over-powered egos.

eh i dont know. I think we're too demographic specific here (southern sports fans). I know it's grown to include other interests but thats a common denominator for a large majority of this boards traffic. Reddit was able to grow because it doesnt have those restrictions (at least on the surface, you can make the argument you have to be liberal to be accepted there).

reddit is controlled by a cabal of tranny mods. 99% of the post on /r/whitepeopletwitter or really any non-hobby forum are going to be "republicans bad"

I like TD format better than Reddits.
Especially on the app.

Both collect like-minded individuals. We baws tend to lean a little more to the right than those nutjobs on Reddit.

A lot of "old farts" on Tigerdroppings (we tend to lack the diversity of reddit) that are super negative about almost everything, but I'd rather that than deal with the than the crazies on Reddit.
Both of them are actually shockingly helpful at times if you are looking for very specific information. There's a lot of people that post on TD and Reddit that have amazing and unique insights. It's just far easier to filter through the nutty stuff on TD than on Reddit. And TD is also more regionally relevant if you live in the southern US.
My preference is TD obviously. But I would be concerned by the site as a whole not attracting younger, newer posters. Sites that don't do that eventually go stale and fade away. We are a ways off from that, but it would be an outside threat to TD in a decade or two since most of the posters are between 30-60 years old. Reddit has a broader age range, and they tend to trim out old sub reddits that are not very high traffic, and new sub reddits are created quickly.
But holy hell there are some super nutty people on Reddit.

It's nice to have a consolidated space with all the various topics. But I kinda miss the old days where we had separate websites with very specialized messageboards. The problem with Reddit is that you get a lot of bullshite, lies, and kids trying to be funny.

There are so many subs on reddit that have a lot more specialized knowledge that doesn't get shown on videos or documented on wiki how. Reddit is a wealth of knowledge that is extremely helpful.

Yes, since it has that many subs, the amount of brain rot that is on Reddit is insane too. Join the subs you like and mute the ones you hate.
Reddit can be a fantastic source of information and knowledge though.

There’s a lot of systems in place on reddit to silence dissenting views.
1. Mods can easily ban individuals from Individual subreddits. This gives mods the ability to curate who they allow to post.
2. If you’re below a certain threshold of “karma”, you’re restricted from posting/commenting. “Karma” is your balance of upvotes/downvotes that you receive. If your karma is low, you can’t post at all or can only post once in a blue moon. Same is true for commenting. High comment karma means you can comment as much as you want.
3. What posts are visible is based on karma rather than recency. Most upvoted posts and comments go to the top.
4. Reddit is full of bot accounts that exist to automatically upvote/downvote posts based on content to make sure certain topics are seen or not seen.
This all is done specifically to create progressive echo chambers and ensure conservative thoughts cannot be seen or even joked about.
