Yes the officer knew exactly what to do in that situation. I can't say I would have known to do the same thing. But I do now..
Lots of good information in this video. Notice how the office turned to his side where his gun is away from the perp. The thug thinks he is emptying out his pockets for money. Then, the officer pulls the gun and points it as close to the criminal as possible.

Feel free to post the data.
What data?
Statistics will prove his argument incorrect.

It wasn't an argument. It was speculation on my part about one point. My "argument" is the same as yours.

I understand that, and that is why I commented. People who are clearly on the other side of the issue are for the most part lost causes and debating the finer points of an issue with them results in rapid deflection and name calling.
I agree that accidental firearm shootings and deaths are tragic. One interesting piece of data nearly universally omitted from reporting is legal ownership of the gun. Although I will not make a statement of certainty, I believe that many of the accidental shootings occur in homes where the firearm is illegally possessed.
The data from CDC FROM 1999-2010 compared with a single year of FBI crime statistics indicates that you are 38.2 times more likely to be the victim of a violent crime than you are to be killed by a firearm. Further you are 773 times more likely to be the victim of a violent crime than you are to die of an unintentional firearm discharge if you are under the age of 20.

and for those that think we should rely on the authorities
quote:
The 2012 statistics show that the estimated rate of violent crime was 386.9 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants, and the property crime rate was 2,859.2 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants.
Yet per FBI statistics for the same year
quote:
The arrest rate for violent crime was 166.3 per 100,000 inhabitants
That is nearly 2.5 more likely to be the victim of a violent crime than it is for the criminal to be brought to justice after the fact. Couple that with the relatively weak penal system in this country that allows criminals back on the street too quickly and too often and any rational person can see the need for additional protection.

Really surprised he was able to get a head shot. I would have shot from my hip assuming he pulled from his hip holster.
Interesting that he was able to raise the gun that high without the kid reacting. It shows you the difference between trained and untrained.
i was thinking the same. wonder if the thugs gun even had any rounds in it

And he swiped the gun away from him as he came around. Very smart. Although this officer sure had a lot of training, a little bit of training can go a long way.

Really? You think you'd be happy to kill three teenagers?
I'm ALL for self defense, but it's monstrous to celebrate shite like this.

It's one thing to be packing heat, but not every pistol packing desperado is going to be able to remain calm and react when they have a gun in their face. I hope I don't ever have to find out. That dude had cajones.

It really isn't. The other two now have the potential to commit more crimes affecting other innocent people. And it's not a stretch to say it's all but a certainty that's going to happen. Better to kill the real monsters of the world than have them prey upon the masses. I know I haven't come out and said that I hoped he got the other two, but I think there's a very valid reason to feel that way.

New term...it was a "common good killing".

Great job by this officer. They certainly picked the wrong target. This kid made a choice to Rob avid steal from a hard working person who knew how to defend himself.
I wish Jesse Jackson and his like would spend more time saving these kids before they are hurt or killed than wanting to jump in after they are killed.

Doing what needs to be done to protect yourself and other innocents is good and should be celebrated.
If you're cutting joyful backflips while watching a man's (whose worst crime as far as you know is attempted armed robbery) life bleed out on the pavement, something's wrong with you.
And I might go as far to say that you are part of the reason our 2nd Amendment rights are being threatened by the true pansies, i.e. those that, from an unwillingness to see the world as it is and realize that they are responsible for their own protection, convince themselves things would be safer if good people were disarmed.
It makes gun owners look crazy when so many of them get giddy about the idea of "filling thugs heads with lead."
