for baws, maybe, I've fished out of there for years, college aged girls would be bored af two hours after they got there, especially ones brought up in that lifestyle, but there is nothing there, no bars, no stores, not a thing for them to do, night life there consists of having a few cocktails on your boat and maybe visiting with your neighbors for a bit before turning in early to get rested up for an early start to fishing

Would I be off base to speculate that alcohol played a part?

I passed this story along to my buddy, who is friends with one of Cline's competitors. His friend and Cline knew each other well, and my buddy said Cline did a lot of business in Louisiana. I suppose that is how his daughter got acquainted with LSU. Sad story.

I’d think so.

My cousin Megan is in Phi Mu at LSU.
I don’t even understand why “Phi Mu” even enters this topic and/or discussion. Three LSU students would be my choice.

Prayers for the families.

This is, by and large, an LSU board.

It made sense in that context that the OP narrowed it down and made the headline even more relevant to the board.

It is a very sad deal, and it sounds like Mr. Cline was just getting an ill girl home.

that would only make it worse for the girls, unless the harbor has been expanded since I've been there that wouldn't fit in Walker's, they'd be stuck on the boat

This is really weird. I met this guy at when I was in grad school at Marshall. That was 10 years ago now. I worked in the athletic departments and he was a HUGE benefactor to the school.

I had no idea that his daughter ended up going to LSU. Sad day for both of my alma maters.

I wouldn’t mind being stuck on the boat, plus they can take the little boat from the larger one to the dock. Or a helicopter apparently. I wouldn’t be bored at all, even if taking fishing or diving out of the equation.

I don’t think I’d get bored on this:

well, I've given up trying to explain how remote that place is, and with zero to do for 21-22 year old sorority girls, yep take the dinghy to the dock, for what? to look back at your boat? there is literally nothing else to do there, yep, us baws love shite like that, but that fancy boat is nothing special to a kid that grew up in that environment, lived down their among the spoiled and pampered long enough to see that

ETA: one thing I haven't thought of until now is that maybe they weren't anchored at Walkers, maybe they were at sea and a medical issue arose and they need to get a medivac and Walker's was the closest place for a helicopter to get in at night?

Don't see anything really helping it float. Maybe it was just shallow water

I did the training twice recently. Buckling the seatbelt was one of the slowest parts. No way the girls could do that quickly, tighten them up properly, and get ready to go down in time. The problem with that is you have to be strapped in tight to push the windows out and have the harness pop open with one turn. You also have to pull the seals out of some, and turn the handle on some. At 2am, I can't see them being able to do that at all.

Eta: I wonder if those pilots flew with an EBS

I get that it’s remote, but I’m just wondering why we're arguing about whether girls were bored or not. I’d think getting away from it all off to the Bahamas with your friends is pretty special in and of itself, no matter if it had other glitzy stuff to go along with it. Or maybe it wasn’t special. Who knows or cares?

thought I saw that they were in 16' of water, if so, that looks about right, looks like there is undeployed flotation on the skids

This might be the silliest back and forth I’ve seen on the OT in a while... I’m not on Instagram, but most of the pics I’ve happened to see involve attractive women in bikinis literally doing nothing more than ‘laying out’ on a boat getting a tan, or jumping off of said boat into the water to swim.. Both of those things seem to have been possible, and in fact enjoyable, on this particular boat.. If it were a month long trip , then i could see how that would get old- but for a few days, I’d think those girls would be in hog heaven.
