I work 4 days, off three, three days off four, repeat as a nurse. Shifts vary though.

I think 4-10s would be better than my current schedule, but it would impact my productivity sometimes.

Im a chef and working 12-14 hour days are common. At my old job I was working 65-75 a week. That flat out sucked. My current job I'm only working 50-55 and I feel like I'm on vacation.

Currently work 5 10's now so four 10's would be sweet
My company is testing 4, 12s...I'd sign up for that...

I've had two jobs in the past that we're 4-10s. It's absolutely glorious if you're up for it!

Like someone said, though, it does depend on your commute. 10 hours is a long day so if you're tacking on an hour commute each ways that'd be tough. I was like 10 mins so it was totally worth it.

2 15's and a 10 would be as good as it could get IMO if I had to work 40

I'd like to have a 4 on 4 off 4 on 2 off schedule.

Our office did this just before I came in but everyone else in the company was complaining.

work M-T one week
off 4 days
work T-F the next week
off 2 days.

This way you have a fully staffed office T-Th and half a crew M and F.

Our field guys have been working 4-10s for years now... if we tried to make them go back to 5-8s they would revolt

i liked 4-10s when i worked in the field myself, but my current 8-5 job in the office is actually a 7-5:30+ job... going 4 -10s would mean i would end up working 5-10s....

I completely agree, OP. The world would truly be a better place if the workweek were 4 days on, 3 days off. IMO, very few people would mind working 25% more per day if it meant and extra weekend day. I certainly would not.

I would genuinely be happier, and I'd have more time to spend with family and do the things I really enjoy in life.

I have 2 6hr days and 3 13hr days,
But I cook for a living, if we're busy more,
If not, less.

Agree. At least in the consulting office I work in unless you're working on something urgent, my office lets you leave when you hit 40 hours, whenever that may be. I do get paid straight time for overtime though, so I don't necessarily want to leave after 40.

I work on construction. A lot of our subs work 4-10s. It can be done, even in that industry. Personally, I think those guys are more productive than the guys working 5 days a week. They spend less time fricking off.

It's going to take the last of the baby boomers retiring to get rid of that mindset. I feel like people my age are much more accepting of a work/family balance than our parents were.

13 in a day is too much. You start to have focus and burnout issues.
4 10s is wonderful as long as you have a 30 minute or less commute like yours truly.
