Going further, I wouldn't be surprised to see inventories held low for quite some time as they've seen people are willing to shell out MSRP and then some.
Eventually domestic manufacturers will figure out what Toyota already knows and does.

With the longevity of car life now, there is really no need to produce how many we did before 2020.
Engines are designed to go into the hundreds of thousands miles.
We just buy cars to keep up with our neighbors and get further in debt.
It is nice to break that cycle.

Yes there is. It's called consumer demand.
Do people need to replace their car every three years? Of course not. Do they want to? Yes, a large percentage do.
This is the worst possible time to buy a new car yet the other day the local dealer got 3 Blazers in and they were all sold by the next day.
Prior to this shortage Blazers were not selling well at all. Now they are sold as they roll off the truck as people want something new.

I went by the local Ford dealership here in Ellic a few days ago. Just looking. Line of F150's with Ranger wheels dew to shortages. Craziest, ugliest shite I ever seen.

One positive of the chip shortage: I ordered an F-150, and they gave me $50 because the auto start/stop will be deleted due to no chips. I hate that feature, so it is a win/win.

Seems like we’ve been in this shortage for two plus years now. Why haven’t we caught up?
Or at least tell engineering to tweak the design to not need that part. If your whole design hinges on one specific part from one specific location and one specific seller it is a dumb design.

Meanwhile Ford continues to announce new trims like the raptor.

Mine sat there for 3 months when they were having roof parts shortages, would be extra pissed if it was covered in snow that long.

Intel projects that semiconductors will account for over 20% of the input costs for new premium cars, up from four percent in 2019.
I miss the days when your car wouldn't start it was like five things that could be wrong and two of those rarely ever happened.

So your local dealer keeps all of his inventory inside?

Back in 68 or 69 some Malibus were built with Buick interiors due to a strike.

Typical smartass response from a keyboard warrior, of course they don’t. But they are kept under tents without a foot of snow on them.
But you knew that, congrats on your a-hole point.

Exactly. At least the cars at dealerships are being moved around , test driven etc. and let’s not mention that mice love to chew up newer cars die to soy based wiring.

They put $1000 worth of "add ons", and can charge $15000 for it.

They won’t be cheap by then because there is jack shite on the lots these days.
A fricking Trabant would probably go for a premium right about now.
