I'll give you most honest answer here for STAINED concrete. Extremely easy to keep cleaned. Your slab determines how many cracks you have. We have very little and are extremely pleased. House does echo since there is no carpet downstairs but curtains and other cloth hanging items can help absorb or reduce this. Unlike wood floors or tiles, if you damage them you have to replace. Concrete floors primarily only have the clear coat affected if something were to stain which you can simply strip the clear coat and reseal. I've had mine for 8 years and only stripped one area once due to maid service using harsh chemical on floor. Cheaper to install than wood and tile but we chose it for low maintenance and appearance.

We have stained concrete floors in our house. Some negatives. The floors scratch pretty easy. You still need to pick up items and not drag them across the floor. I moved a queen size bed once by pushing it and there still are scratch marks on the floor in that area. The floors get dusty all the time and they do look dirty. You don't realize how dirty they are until you clean the area very good and the floors are shining. If you have a dog that sheds then you are in trouble. A Neato or Roomba will become your best friend. Concrete floots are not kid or ederly friendly. When they fall it will hurt. You will spend money buying expensive rugs (if your wife is like mine) for many rooms in the house.
Pros. Easy to clean up dog crap and dog pee. No big deal if you spill something on the floor or if the kids spill something. Clean up is a snap. Cracks will naturally form in certain areas and they give the concrete floors character.

Old concrete is a PITA to stain. Especially something that has had flooring on it prior. It will cost you more to do it correctly than it would be to install travertine or something.

I have them and absolutely love them.Very easy to keep clean, specially if you have dogs. Not much you can do to damage them in my experience we there. Only downside is waxing/sealing once every couple years but it's really not that big of a deal to me.

You're only scratching the wax or sealant. Not the concrete itself.

That is my next option, ceramic wood look tile. I've heard both and bad options when it comes to staining the slab. Iay go the safer route and go with he tile.

pros: low maintenance, easy to clean. If you have kids and pets, it's a good option. also, you can always go back and cover with wood or carpet.
cons: looks bland after awhile.
IMO, if you have kids and pets and want to save a few bucks, it's a great option.

Put tile down. Staining them is overrated.

Recently we had The misfortune of a toilet back up that flooded the entire house causing us to have to pull the floors up.
Public Service Announcement: Most sewer system backups are not covered under a standard homeowners insurance policy or flood insurance.
My neighbor just found out the hard way when his wood floors were trashed.
The good news is you can get an endorsement/rider to your HO policy for not too much that will cover $10k or so. Call your agent and see if you have it. I did, but really was unaware of this until my neighbor's incident.

Not the worst if you live in a loft and can't afford wood floors I guess?

Maybe the garage but not inside the house.

We have them. We have 2 dogs, no kids yet. We like them. No issues. Polish every few months or so which is really easy. Just mop on a Few coats and they look brand new.

Not true technically. In fact, I would argue that is a pro the stained floors. If the current floor is already removed due to the water damage, might as well try an area with the stained concrete look.
If it looks good and happy with the results, continue. If not pleased, go back an put wood, carpet, tile over it like before.
True you pretty much only get one shot to stain it, but you have options to redo or cover with other finishes.

Just don't stamp it with your initials if you plan on selling it.
Had a family do that. Big W right in the middle of the floor. Fortunately, we found a buyer that also had a last name that started with W.

I think they look horrible but that's just my personal opinion. Many like them

I hate them, with that said, if you have a tight budget or have young kids I understand why people use them. You can always go over them with nicer floors. The main problem I have with them is no matter what you do concrete will crack and then they look like crap. Also, they need to be maintained and resealed depending on the floor traffic every 2 to 5 years. If I were building a house the only place I would think about using stained concrete in on the porches and patios.
