I grew up in a household in which we came to the table at nearly the same time each day to eat dinner as a family, and you were expected to be there. We talked about our days, what was going on at school, and enjoyed time together.

I grew up in a house where we sat down for dinner each night, and it was awful. My parents are fine people, but for some reason the dinner table was the place to get onto us about one thing or another. And when I was young, there were many nights stuck there for 1-2 hours being forced to finish food I wasn't hungry for.

I wouldn't call it fond memories.

Haven't gone over for a meal in a while. My parents don't do TV/music and have a very quiet, open house with a lot of hard surfaces so you just hear everyone chewing/swallowing. Kills Jones and I, so we hang out with them in other ways.

Right now it’s usually just Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. That’s about to change though as softball season starts Saturday. And of course I got drafted to coach my daughter’s team.

Between baseball and softball, our dinners this time of year are typically served in a little paper bowl with cheese and jalapenos

seems to be the norm, when not at sports or events. We try as much as we can. We always have a "high /low" talk before bed though, What was your High for the day and what was your low? Its usually simple one word answers but its what we do.

and damn to hell on fortnite. now the 10 yo wants a new gaming chair and a bigger TV geeze

Other than Mrs Vader there’s really only one other who’s worth looking at.

I like how you put ‘soccer’ and ‘ball’ in different categories because we all know soccer isn’t a real sport

At least where I live, kids' soccer is watching 1 good Hispanic kid being chased by terrible white kids for about an hour.

ETA: Just for full disclosure, my kid is one of the terrible ones.

I don't have kids yet, but I had "family dinner time" when I was a kid, and I'll make it a priority.

My wife did not have a structured dinner time. And I have already weaned her into it. I like to cook, and I think it is important.

At times, I may not have enjoyed it - didn't like the food, was angry with my parents, etc. - dumb kid stuff. However, I have a great appreciate for food, I am not a picky eater, and you need to learn to cope with conflict. I see so many kids now-a-days who eat chicken fingers and french fries 6 days a week - disgusting.

We do. We have a rule that there is no TV or screen of any kind during dinner.

We sit at the table and eat.

We don't have kids yet, but we still eat together every night. Sometimes at the bar and other times at the table, it just kinda depends. We don't play on our phones, or watch tv when we eat either.

ETA: I didn't grow up like this, but my wife did. I enjoy it.

We do it most nights if I am home from work early enough.

If not they get tv trays and watch a show some other nights.

I always make it a priority if I can and we do a table prayer.

I am pretty urgent about it because the wife doesn't pray with the kids for dinner or bedtime and I try my best to raise them with those experiences on my own.

As often as possible. Sometimes we have a very late dinner after practice. No phones are allowed during any meal.

It's tough. I'm not home until 6 pm at the earliest pretty much every weeknight, often later. Pretty much every night, M-TH, one or both of the kids have activities that start as early as 5:15 pm and often last past 7:30. The kids don't want to eat that late.

We try to make sure we have dinner together at least one night on the weekend.

Also, no phones, tablet, screens at the table. That's the rule no matter if we are eating together or not.
