Did they say if the teacher who propped the door open was one of the ones who were killed?

Im not defending the cops, but I have no experience organizing a "mission" to take down a shooter.

The shooter was inside with the kids for what 45-60 minutes? so there was 45-60 mins where they did nothing.

How long does it take for someone to organize an attack plan to take down a barricaded shooter? I believe you cant just send 150 cops at a target with no plan? idk what kind of weapons the cops had, are cops with pistols effective in this situation?

I really want to blame the cops here, but I have no experience in this matter and it seems more complicated

Apparently 19 officers were in there less than 5 minutes after he entered the school.

I don't understand how 19 officers can't suppress and kill one person? There's absolutely 0 reason for this unless he was using live children as body protection.

It sounds like the classrooms were adjoining, so there should have been two entrances at least. Plus likely windows.

I don't see how you don't have teams of 2-3 on each door, and someone at the windows until he is dead. 19 guys with guns V 1, and the 19 stood back. Embarassing.

I worked in law enforcement and it simply boggles my mind how incompetent that police department was during this situation. How were they that disorganized? How can any adult man or woman stand by while children are being murdered, much less a LEO Absolutely disgusting and they should all lose their commissions and be sued. Disgraceful

They retreated for “better gear and backup”

What officer would respond to an active school shooter scene and not immediately get his m4 out of his trunk of his cruiser. Do you seriously believe an officer would go into a gun fight with only a 9mm pistol. You’re foolish to believe that. Those officers were either told not to grab their rifles or never even went inside the school at all.

I do have experience. The response to this was an abomination.

Totally incompetent, to the point that it was criminal.

Small town LEOs are often fricking jokes and completely autocratical. You don't get trained and do what you're told.

You know who does? Police officers. They train for this shite. Probably not as much as they should, but they definitely do active shooter training.

In this case they, along with their command, failed to act.

A tactical team from the border patrol, I believe. There were multiple officers, they had a shield.

A group of 4 Border Patrol tactical team members went in, they had multiple shields.

Shouldn't matter though, with 15+ officers (reportdly 19) they should have been able to slowly (as in within 5 mins) surround him and put up a field of suppressive fire so intense he couldn't move or get shot until someone could shoot him.

There were at least 2 doors, plus windows. Break the windows out and surround him.

Yesterday I spoke with a good friend who's retired Highway Patrol. He told me that in his 20 years, he was involved in 4 active shooter situations. In each one, he said as soon as he arrived on scene he grabbed his tac vest and AR and immediately made entry to the buildings in question. In only one did he come into contact with the subject. He said having other officers individually entering the buildings did make more things chaotic (but manageable), but he also said he thinks that because of it they stopped the threat more quickly.

Neither do I, which is why I don’t get paid to defend the public or receive specialized training for situations like this.

But I also know enough to know that in an active shooter situation you don’t leave armed individuals who could stop the situation on the outside while you hear active gunshots going off in a classroom of children who have no means of defense.

ETA: I need to stop reading about this because it’s just an absurd amount of failures at multiple levels that is beyond infuriating. I can only imagine how the parents of these kids feel. One of them will likely seek justice however they can get it.

- this is absolutely horrible
- is there some chance they assumed the killer may have been strapped with a bomb and capable of even more damage?
- is there some chance they couldn’t wrap their brain around the idea that he would literally just kill every kid versus it being treated as a hostage situation?
- I don’t want to believe there’s a conspiracy that they were told to stand down for nefarious reasons, but damn
- why is the press burying pics of this guy cross dressing?
- how many capital police officers have committed suicide since Jan 6? A comparison may be telling of something, not sure what.

This happened the same day my 10 year old graduated from primary school. It seems to make it hit even harder personally after attending the event.
