Blaming the Teacher who let shooter in, Cops had 3 ballistic shields, still didn't engage shooter and retreated. Cops detain parents who try to go in to save their kids. Cops go in to save their own kids. Over 150 cops were on the scene and did nothing while he murdered kids for an hour

What a disaster. This is gonna go down as one of the biggest failures in law enforcement history

I find it really strange that we've had several these take place where the local police seemingly allowed it to happen. That's just too much for my Asperger's to process without thinking that at some point they WANTED it to be bad.

Embarrassing, really.

ETA

City council needs to call a special session and cut their fricking budget.

Meanwhile the police…..

McCraw later said “from the benefit of hindsight from where I am sitting now, that of course it was not the right decision, it was a wrong decision, very, there was no excuse for that.”

"From the benefit of hindsight"? What in the frick? We've had the benefit of hindsight since Columbine to know how to respond to mass shooters

Every new statement by spokesmen for the department shows gross incompetence by the police.

The incident commander should be fired immediately, if not worse. Total failure of law enforcement.

Did the teacher who let the shooter in die?

Is that number accurate? I'm guessing there were some there from other jurisdictions?

Charge them all w/accessory to capital murder. That will send a message that this is Unacceptable!

I am not going to jump on the bandwagon of prosecuting them because they didn't assault the shooter. Unfortunately the supreme court has made that clear, at least for now.

However...

If it comes to light that they prevented parents from doing what they refused to do?

Bury those mother frickers.

The final verdict doesn't matter. If you are the DA, you charge them. All facts are then open to the public.

The key questions for me are (a) when were the children shot; and relatedly (b) would earlier action have saved any lives.

I don't know if we will ever get a straight answer for that unless there is video / audio. You have to always assume that there may be kids still alive in there and you need to take out the threat ASAP.

(Unfortunately) They won't do that. But every parent is going to sue the $#!+ out of the police dept and that WILL send a message.

I agree. However, I still feel a need to know whether the delay here actually altered potential outcomes and lost lives. If there is an argument to be made that it did, I will have a much harder time absolving the officers involved.

That won't do a damn thing. That department doesn't have the funds to be able to pay out the kind of judgements that will be levied, so then it'll just be Tax payers being levied a new tax to pay for it.

They need to prosecute every single police officer for a crime if they stood by and did nothing while not allowing parents the opportunity to save their kids.
