That’s some bullshite it’s not a crime to be in a public place. You can be asked to leave for “suspicious behavior” but not arrested and sentenced to jail.
The guy should sue and easily win against the city.

I hope this guys get out, sues, and wins a huge settlement. These municipalities need to know and understand that we have constitutional rights. They need to understand that it is their job to protect those rights. This is pure corruption and it needs to be exposed.

and I seem to recall a case where a passenger in a car was arrested for not showing ID
What if the person simply didn’t have an ID? There is no requirement to have one, even if one is a passenger in a vehicle.
I’m not tying to be an arse, but generally, one doesn’t have to identify oneself to LEOs,,,,this isn’t Nazi Germany.

That guy is an a-hole and knows he's being provocative. Some guy wandering around with multiple backpacks should result in suspicion. Any objective person would have called what he did "casing" the place. To deny that demonstrates what a biased pile of crap this video is. But of course, the gullible will take it as Gospel.

Stop and identify laws don't require you to carry ID (unless you are driving or flying on a commercial plane) but if you meet the legal requirements you have to provide your name, address, and explanation of the actions you are being questioned about.

Yeah, who takes their backpack to a library and then walks around the library? Obviously casing the place to come back and steal all the valuable books the Natchitoches library houses.
And how dare he tell the librarian that he didn’t need any help. fricking animal.

frick that guy. White or black, what is so hard about giving athorities your name and identification. You get a call on you because your suspicious then dont identity yourself makes it seem like you are up to something and have something to hide.

Guy is being a pain in the arse. frick him. LEOs deal with enough bullshite already.
He got what he deserved.

frick Travis. I hope he gets beat to death with a flurry of nightsticks one day.
He probably has a more than a dozen arrests across the country by now. He's always filming in some library or park where he's overstayed his welcome and provoking the cops. He's been doing this for years.

Chances are there’s tattle tape on the books - if he leaves it will set off an alarm - and he could be actually arrested for stealing
quote:the problem with this is if he was actually pulling on locked doors (who knows if he really was) - I would’ve asked him if he needed help to and then ask why he was pulling on the doors
And how dare he tell the librarian that he didn’t need any help. fricking animal.

Louisiana has a stop and identify law. If you don't have physical identification, you are required to give your name, birthday, and other pertinent info.
The Supreme Court has ruled against these types of laws due to protections given by the 4th amendment. I don't think the stop and identify law has been challenged in Louisiana yet. Maybe someone can elaborate on the laws? This really peaks my curiosity.

But he DID need help
All he was there to do was find the computers to use the internet. That, and obviously provoke a response. All he had to do was ask where the computers were, but like I said, he was there to provoke a response too.

quote:Yeah, I don't recall the specifics. My takeaway lesson from it was don't refuse ID to an officer. They'll win the moment, even if they lose the long run.

. And some libraries you do have to get permission to record because there might be kids in there.
Wrong.
The Supreme Court has already ruled that if you are in a public place, you have ZERO expectation of privacy.
They have also ruled that unless a LEO suspects you of a specific crime, he can not demand ID. These guys know this, they know most cops were C- students, and do this for a living.
Also, Judge Pawpaw runs his court like a fiefdom, and will end up off of the bench when this guy is through. The parish will probably just settle when they read the transcripts of how this marsupial trial went.
The constitution is bruised, but still exists.
