I used to think this was bad in Louisiana and Texas until I moved to Colorado. I can't tell you how many people camp out in the left lane who drive the speed limit or under. This concept in general is incredibly frustrating. There's even a few mouth breathers in this thread who believe in it. Why get in the right lane for that jerk wad going 85? Because he's trying to pass in the passing lane. Whether you think he's a douche or not, it's the fricking rules of the road.

To the crowd who believes going 70 in a 60 means they shouldn't get over, congrats, you are the cancer. You may be going above the speed limit but that doesn't give you the right to keep other drivers behind you from passing you. Not everyone is content only going 10 above. Let people do their own thing and worry about yourself.

Saw this a lot on my Christmas travels. Oddly enough it was dumb arse Texans that were the worst offenders.

Though, please show me a road where everyone is going 70 mph on a 60 mph road where it is too close/crowded to change lanes.

I-10 at Veterans to Causeway.

When the fourth lane opens up to the left, you have idiots who move over doing 55-60, then go to 70 and stay, then everyone else has to go around on the right.

Left lane usage is a huge issue, though IMO a much larger issue is people wanting too much distance between them and the car in front in traffic.

The douche who requires four car lengths in front of him in slow traffic, lets cars in constantly backing everyone else up

I can only imagine how many dickheads on this board purposely drive in the left lane and then through a shite fit when someone tailgates or slips past them.

But if you go 25mph over the speed limit its a wreckless driving charge, and a minimum $2500 fine.

I live in VA and it is reckless driving because "wreckless" driving is by definition completely safe - there are no wrecks.

It's 20mph over the limit, not 25. And $2500 is the maximum fine, not the minimum.

About the only thing you got right is that 80mph is deemed reckless no matter what the posted limit is.

Now our highways are filled with SJW's who think that they'll travel 65 on I-10 in the left because it's their right. I really wish cops would pull them over. It really does cause more problems when they think they need to police the highway. Sadly they will never read these type articles.

there are idiots here

And I have identified one undeniable law of nature associated with these idiots. They will block you in for miles refusing to speed up that golden 1 or 2 mph necessary to free the cars behind. Once they lose the roadblock they invariably will speed up 10 to 15 mph.

Check it out, it never fails.

Highway lane usage is the biggest secret that whites have kept from blacks.

Id say 95% of the time I encounter the left lane problem, it's a black female. Stunning.

I certainly agree about left lane drivers but that video is dumb.

That dude basically saying left lane drivers force people to become dangerous drivers, which is just silly.

So the guy going 15 over isn't a a-hole? Are we just going to pretend that isn't illegal too?

Going over the limit by that much is way more dangerous to the flow of traffic.

Good point. Defensive driving basically teaches people to drive slow and you'll be fine.

Defensive driving has kept my car and me from getting fricked. But I also get over to the right if I'm not passing. I'm just a good driver.

Know how many people I see go on a red light when it's just the arrow turning green? All the fricking time.

Or the idiots merging on the interstate at 40. Or when you are trying to merge the idiots that either speed up or slow down when they are supposed to maintain their speed.

And left lane drivers do not give a damn about that video. They feel like it belongs to them or they are teaching you a lesson.

Maddening.

Auto correct bub, I typed reckless, or at least tried to. Must have messed up a letter or two on the back end in my haste, and it autocorrected to "wreckless" instead.

I couldn't remember if it was 20 or 25, so I went with the higher number because it would seem like less embellishment.

Regarding the fine, i had already moved away from Va a few months before this was implemented, and that is what I was told by my dad when it went into effect.

My dad's understanding, and therefore mine at the time, was that the fines were also stackable. That if you were pulled over doing 87 in a 65, you caught a $5000 fine, or if you were drunk as well, $6500. Is that accurate?

because you don't own that lane. and neither do i. if either of us are driving slower than someone behind us, it is our duty to yield that lane to them.

So, if a 70MPH speed zone is in effect, and I'm travelling 75MPH in the right lane. I pull out in a clear left lane to pass a car going 72 mph and maybe there are three in front of me doing the same. What should I do?

Speed up and whip around into the right, then left, then right, then left.

bullshite. +5MPH or screw you no matter what lane you are in. Grow up.

Sounds like bullshite to me.

P.S.: Screw all you interstate cowboys who think it's cool to run people off the road with a deadly weapon, or threaten someone with a deadly weapon (your fricking car), so you can speed. That is exactly what you are doing, and you should go to jail.

All you knotheads who say "left lane passing only rules of the road der der der" sure forget laws against exceeding the speed limit and reckless driving are also "rules of the road."

I don't understand why this is even debatable. The Left lane is a passing lane. It is against the law to drive in the left lane if you aren't passing someone. Texas drivers are the worst when it comes to this.

I don' drive in the left-hand lane, only to pass. Religiously.

But by God, I don't run up the arse of those who do, with a deadly weapon, and jeopardize both of our lives'. Do people understand the concept of slowing down or passing, even if it's in the right-hand lane?
