Everyone shouldn't be allowed to drive as slowly as they want, and on most highways and interstates, they arent. There are usually "minimum speed limit" signs posted on most major highways. There are safety reasons for that. It's why certain vehicles (motor or otherwise) aren't allowed on major highways - because they aren't fast enough.

Roads are engineered to ensure efficient and safe flow of traffic.

A lot of times you get douches who want to tailgate the frick out of everybody. Not necessarily because they're trying to get anywhere faster but because they want wide open road ahead of them. So they'll do what you said- zip between cars and tailgate everyone into getting over to the right so they can slow back down again to do 80 in the left lane.

I agree with what is said in the video, but there is a major flaw that exists in reality outside of the concept. All would be good and fine if cars got back into the right lane after passing, but that doesn't always happen. What happens is you have some drivers who feel that they're going 85+ mph, therefore it's ok to stay in the left instead of constantly getting back over to the right lane and passing when need be. So what we get is a mix of drivers going 10 mph under the speed limit and 20 mph over the speed limit, all in what's supposed to be a passing lane. It's a passing lane, not a fast lane.

All you did was make a case for the left lane being a passing lane. Irrespective of speed, it's a passing lane. There is no flaw with this system, in theory or in practice.

so i'm in the left lane going 70 in a 60. line of cars ahead of me, none yield to me. right lane as full. i'm supposed to find a place in the right lane b/c some jerk wad comes up on my tail going 85? nope, not gonna do it. wouldn't be prudent.

The equally retarded people in front of you who are thinking the same way are the reason you can't pass.

You are all part of the problem.

ETA: Though, please show me a road where everyone is going 70 mph on a 60 mph road where it is too close/crowded to change lanes.

Slower traffic keeps to the right, always. Number of lanes do not matter.

You read me wrong. I wasn't making the point that the system is flawed. I was making the point that it's not just slow drivers in the left lane. It's anybody camping out in the left lane. Slow or fast.

Let me simplify. Stay out of the passing lane unless you're passing. Don't give a shite if you're going 90 mph. Just stay out.

Everyone is going 10 mph over the speed limit but it is still bumper to bumper? I'll have to take your word on it.

well, bumper to bumper is a relative term, but essentially, yes.

Fine, I'll rephrase. So, you are all bad enough drivers that you don't leave adequate stopping distance between you and the car in front of you while all going 10 mph over the speed limit?

Why the hell do you think the entire city of Baton Rouge gets shut down two or three times a week because the dumb fricks who grew up here get in wrecks on I-10? Did you think we were kidding? THIS IS NO frickING JOKE!

well adequate is a relative term but essentially you got the picture. care to come and see?

oh and if you do try to maintain adequate stopping distance in either lane on a Friday PM near the BR airport you're gonna get shot

Hey, I don't live there, I'm trying to get an understanding of your roads. I just find it hard to believe that everyone is able to drive over the speed limit on a road in heavy traffic where it is impossible to change lanes, especially considering everyone is going the same speed. It just defies every observed road I've ever seen.

yep, maintaining a manageable over the speed limit speed and equidistant with the cars in front of me not busting my arse to get over for the 85mph jerk wad

What can I say? Native Baton Rougeans are stupidly bad drivers. It is impossible to leave a safe space in front of you. One of them is just going to get in it.
