It's a signal. As in "I'm ready to throw down and I'm callin' up my squad".
They use the "Hat Signal" in Montgomery.
In Paris, it's the "Shoe Signal".

well that settles the age old question as to wether his orange sneakers make him run faster. I bet the sight of him is trippy after dark. Just two shoes out for a walk.
on a side note: last time I was in Paris I was disappointed that the city felt entirely overrun by African migrants. It was a dumpster fire of people sleeping on the streets and so much security surrounding points of interest that it lost its charm. I would be hard pressed to convince my family to give it another shot.

We were there in November 2022 for 3 days. Hadn't been since the late 70's.
Paris has always been a very international city with multitudes of nationalities walking around. Was looking for that, but actually, at least where we were, saw very little migrant looking people, except maybe around Montmartre selling Trinkets. Certainly nothing aggressive or violent. FAR more Asians (yeah, lumping them in. Could have been Asians, Nationalist China, Taiwanese, maybe South Koreans).
Had a good time and was pleasantly surprised, but I'm not a big city guy anyway, so I wouldn't go back.

Not sure how even a boomer could think otherwise. Even the passengers were giving little smirks like they knew it was going to play out like that.

I honestly thought he had on jail shoes.

I'm amazed at the serious replies in this thread. I've never seen something more staged.

Perfect timing. If only 1 second off he would have been fighting.

—True. The non-Chinese Asians hate the pushy“Chinois” tourists and ex-pats.
Many Koreans there too, but they are generally nice.

Yes, that is true. I have visited maybe a half dozen times since the mid 1980's. But always I was able to hear french on the street, and felt relatively safe in the areas with which I was familiar.
The most recent visit (Summer 2019) it was the summer and naturally a lot of Parisians leave town for a few months. But also the metro stations in the 16th where we were staying were closed, so we did a lot of walking. Got a view I hadn't seen ever before. Trying to use the metro with limited services and found that the metro attendants couldn't speak french or english.
The large Chinese tourists groups.. don't get me started. Ran across them in Switzerland 2023. Snot rocket blowing, street spitting, staring, nose picking, no line waiting mother frickers couldn't give a shite about anyone around them. One of the swiss towns we were in had a special train just for them.

Probably fake, but certainly funny.

Get him in the portal! I thought of Cecil Collins watching the guy running on one shoe.

This is either fake and staged, or the best thing that I have seen in a month.
