I watched half of the video.

The only food I saw was frozen lasagna (not cheap), soda (drink water), and candy. I'm just going to leave it at that.

In other countries they work long hours in brutal conditions for pennies a day. They live in shacks and mud huts. No running water. No AC.

Exactly. This is a perspective problem, not a poverty problem.

Americans (even the poor ones) are spoiled beyond belief, and it's a problem that isn't getting better anytime soon.

People from other countries are willing to DIE to get here and make that 7.50 an hour.

Sob story about an irresponsible, young, single mother who's paying for her poor decision making skills. Do. Not. Care.

She should be sterilized along with the jailed father. She and those like her should receive no assistance whatsoever.

$7.50 an hour and government $$$ assistance for everything. I bet she has several more fatherless children.

You sure as shite can, it's the CPS. And some would argue that it's one of government's most important roles, protecting children from abusive guardians. I'd be great with beefing up that department and forcing people treat their kids like kids instead of sources of income.

And you would include all welfare mothers in the abusive category? That's ridiculous.
You seem in sufficiently respectful of parents rights. I could see us coming to a fatal disagreement over this.

I'm not insensitive to how tough it is but this is pretty misleading. The first item is Income and though it says she makes $7.50 an hour, they say she makes $240 every 2 weeks which is $6,240 per year. That means she's only working 16 hours per week... Yeah, my income is going to be pretty low too if I'm only working 16 hours a week.

No, obviously not. I would, however, have a social worker visiting the homes of sixteen year old mothers as well as single welfare mothers to ensure the child's safety and welfare. That seems pretty reasonable to me and a much better use of tax dollars than simply building jails for these kids when they get old enough to rob a store.

I'd also support state or church run orphanages that could raise and educate children far better than SOME of these hood rat single mothers.

Are we supposed to feel sorry for the woman in the video? I don't. Her situation is self-inflicted.

It's sad to see what a lifetime of bad decisions can lead to. To never work hard in school to make something of yourself so that you can provide the absolute minimum as a worker. Then she obviously picks a horrible guy to get involved with who is now in jail and is a deadbeat. Then she decides to have unprotected sex with this terrible guy knowing the consequences. To compound those bad choices she doesn't take advantage of the free plan B to take care of the child that she knows she can't afford. Now she's dug such a deep hole and is looking for someone to rescue her. Sorry you made the hole and now it's almost impossible to get yourself out of it.

If you can't afford kids, keep your legs closed..pretty damn simple. Get an education or learn a trade to better yourself. Are we supposed to feel sorry for her?

she ain't doing it right..

in 94 minimum was was 4.25. in a 40 hour work week you would clear like 145 bucks. thats almost 300 every 2 weeks. she is making 7.25 but only making 280 every 2 weeks, so its obvious she is leaving a lot of hours on the table. There is a reason its called "WORK"

So, I did the rough calculation and if she worked 40 hours at min. wage with one child (single mother) her benefits and wages including EITC would run in the 45k range. This doesn't include medical benefits. Only housing, food, day care and EITC

She doesn't even have to do that. Birth control (for men and women) is free through Planned Parenthood. Unfortunately, so are abortions. There's also adoption. You can be wreckless and have unprotected sex, and still side skirt any parental responsibility in this day and age.

Exactly. What is she doing the other 20 plus hours a week? Work at BK. Your check just doubled.
