I'd be perfectly happy with a '97 Suburban if they weren't all rusty as hell up here.
Square bodies are a bit too agrarian for a daily. The GMT400s were a sea change.

but who wants to burn a new disc with daily podcasts on it every day?
We used to call these "radio shows".

Which were so shitty, I burned audio books to CDs rather than listen to "radio shows," before podcasts were a thing. Who times when they went to work based on when Paul Harvey aired?

The trend is going to cars that are just big iphones that move you around. Most of the world likes this. Gen-X and Boomer white guys in America are less than 1% of the world population, our opinions don't matter. This is what the manufacturers know will sell globally.
With costs as they are, if they came out with a cheap car that didn't have all the tech, people would quickly learn to live without the tech. Gen X is the only generation that grew up without the tech and watched it manifest while still young enough to properly evaluate it. If Gen X is saying something is nice but unnecessary, then Gen X is probably correct. The rest of the world will catch up, eventually.

The older I get the less interested I am in newer vehicles with all the tech and overcomplications of things. Both of our vehicles are quite analog compared to newer/modern things, I do all all our maintenance and repairs outside of engine/transmission/ac system and modern vehicles just make all that stuff much more difficult than it needs to be.

I only buy older cars. You guys keep paying notes and be unable to fix them. I have no notes, lower insurance, and I can fix them myself with no hourly labor rates comparable to a doctor and get up charged on parts with the help of YouTube and the internet forums.
No one gives a frick what you drive unless you maybe have a super car or a classic. You’re impressing no one.

I drive my '86 C20 Suburban to work a couple of times a week. 454 needs to EAT!
The only way my C20 could be better is if it had manual windows.......

I drive a Gbody outfitted with a crate engine, EFI, overdrive, updated suspension and brakes. All is well and would not think of a driving a new vehicle. My wife has a new vehicle with a full array factory gadgets, gizmos, and warning lights for things one should look after with casual maintenance like washer fluid, tire air pressure, oil change interval ...

I like the way you think.
Except I'd prefer a T56 in one for my use.

There is a guy at work who drives this. It has over 270k miles on it
Its an 87. He bought it brand new and I think he said he put a new transmission in it in the 2010s. He did that instead of buying a new vehicle.
Why do people buy new vehicles when you can get something that gets you from point A to point B much cheaper?

I just got a 94 bronco. Couple little things to fix up. I would drive it every day if I didn’t have to drive 45 minutes to work.

They need to offer economy stripped down models of most vehicles. Vehicle prices mainly driven by the level of creature comforts crammed in are absurd
That and government required BS.

One day I’m buying a 98 two door Tahoe and keeping it til the day I die.
Late 90’s Chevy truck/SUV’s are my favorite

I hate the modern cars that I've rented. Everything about them is needlessly complicated.
My daily driver is a 2001 Camry that I've owned for 24 years. I love my car more and more with every passing year. Everything works. There are no faults and no red flags. At 76, I might never need to buy another car.

I dumped the TH350 for a hardened Grand National 2004R.
Pretty reasonable vehicles since there are a lot of factory performance parts that work across different platforms.

I have really gotten used to active cruise control.
And modern cars are much safer.
It’s a tough decision.

I prefer manual windows.
And I especially don't want to risk having it bricked because of a bad software update.

My newest vehicle is over 20 years old. I have two that are over 40 and another that's about to turn 60. I put down a deposit on one of the new Grenadiers but didn't follow through with it - that's as close to getting something brand new that I will probably ever get.

My truck is a 2011. Added a Bluetooth converter so I talk hands free and listen to my tunes. Other than that, nothing fancy. Will likely outlive us all.

yesterday my 2022 while traveling at 45 mph following another vehicle my car flashed a dash loud alarm and said brake. While looking at the dash to figure out what was the problem, I almost ran into the vehicle ahead. Totally unsafe technology, worse than driving with a cell phone distraction
