Just chiming in to report that I have a very active son who got hooked on this shite. He never compromised his grades, football or basketball seasons. But last Summer he got hooked on this shite and ran up his mama's credit card for $1400. It came to a head when he was with me on the LSU vs Auburn trip and his mama called me about possible fraud on her CC b/c of 'bogus' Microsoft Charges.

He wasn't spending countless hours playing but he was most definitely addicted to spending her money on v-bucks when playing. This addiction shite is real. Like a gambling or drug addiction. He couldn't stop and knew he was gonna get his arse whooped.

Now a lot of this is his mom's own fault b/c it was a card she never checked but used to renew his Gold subscription. I would have caught that little fricker after spending the first $9.99.

Needless to say he hasn't had a single electronic device since mid-September.

I'm thinking Easter will be a good time to give him back his phone with no data, just text/phonecalls.

ETA: Microsoft does give parents ONE do-over and will refund it all. But they will also give parents a lesson on securing that shite and incorporating alerts with a stern "next time this shite is on you" message.

My son started turning into a fortnight addict. He would wine and complain about schoolwork, chores, etc. After a few warnings, I just unplugged the ps4 and put it away about 6-8 months ago. He complained for a week or so then went about life as usual.

This is how it’s done. My kids have pulled similar stunts, but kids are all about what’s right in front of them. Get something out of their faces and it’s amazing how quickly they’ll forget about it. Two of mine even told me (on two separate occasions) that, after enough time went by, they actually felt better without whatever game/app I had taken away from them and decided they didn’t want it back.

Wow, what an abortion of a sentence.

I found the sentence to be fitting based on the nature of the video along with the link coming from worldstar.

But since we are on the subject of grammar, how about that abortion of a username? DaTroof? Really?

What's especially troubling about this isn't just the video game addiction.

It's that more and more ADHD meds are being prescribed to our nation's youth.

Here's a tip: If your kid can focus on a video game for several hours at a time, they DO NOT have ADHD.

Mine love it. But I think the pull is weakening. They get to play Friday their Sunday.

I bet they played less than four hours all weekend.

What they are doing is driving us crazy to play UNO. Who knew. I bought the game last week and they beg to play.

Kids still like to interact w their parents.

Same. My son was the same. Ran up 150 on mine. I deactivated the card from the system.

Made him figure out a way to pay me back. He’s 12 but started washing cars and doing chores from family members and did pay me back.

He’s always limited to 30 minutes playing but only after he’s gone outside and finished homework. Told him since I deleted my card info from the Xbox if he wants to renew gold he will have to figure out a way to pay for it.

I play video game myself but I also set rules that must be followed. My son never sees me neglecting things because of a game. 99% of the time I don’t get on PS4 until he’s asleep.

Problem is too many patents are content with their kids sitting in front the game all day instead of actually parenting them.

Fortnite is successful because of the in-your-face attention whoring it promotes.

Everything about that game is HEY LOOK AT ME.

The dances, outfits, everything is grade-a attention whoring for 12 year olds.

Nothing is really unique in the game, its all achievable through paying for the newest junk. Its actually brilliant marketing.

kids are fricking stupid.

He's 17 and they let him play video games 12 hours a day? Just rip the fricking thing out of his room. People are really dumb these days

Am I the only adult who does not need to play video games? Ever? I do not own any game system but an old school NES 8 bit that sits in my closet. I do not come home after work and play video games. I pour a drink and hangout with family and watch some News and later a show or 2. I THINK my peers do the same. I have friends whose kids play Fortnight. Looks like something I want to avoid.

It’s incredible right ? I don’t get it either. It’s almost as if there are people out there that are different than me??? It’s like they have different interests than me or something. It’s very hard to believe. They need to get out of their bubble and start thinking more like us man.

Huh. Interesting. I don't know what it being free has to do with anything, though. But interesting.

The post I was quoting wrote the game cost $60. I was correcting that information.

It is relevant as it allows kids easier access to the game since it’s free.

Meh. I do those things too. But about 2-3 hours a week I’ll play a game instead of watching tv. It’s just another form of entertainment.
