considering how many closed for good through the pandemic? no I do not think that's it

cannot imagine ever wanting policy that harms small business growth in this country in any way ... ever. I'll never be a fan of that

We need more H2B visas and the process to get them should be streamlined. Construction is fricked. Meanwhile you have millions of Latinos who are willing to work, quite honestly could be making a shite ton of money... But most importantly, being taxed on it.

Instead you have a bunch of whites and blacks here who don't wanna do shite. So guess what. Construction is delayed. Products are backordered. Everything is fricked.

So you need more workers that are willing to work for subpar wages and are hoping that immigrants will do that. And how do you feel about those foreign workers cohabitating and living next door to your home?

Cut able bodied welfare and that wouldn’t be a problem.

Also an issue in the service industry

I guess I am fortunate. I would like to marry in my 50’s but the market doesn’t favor me. I have been blessed though to work a job in meteorology for 30 years without having to stress about money. I have zero debt. But this economy scares me and if the market collapses again, I might end up out of a job.

Mexicans depressed the wages for these jobs.

Americans can’t afford to work for so little.

Honestly, I'm starting to wonder if this will end.
If the service industry were to start paying better with bennies, then yeah - people will come fill those jobs. Keep it up with the low wages, part time positions, no bennies - then no. Cook your steaks at home. Nature of the beast.
Several friends of mine that were line cooks had to find other ways to pay the bills and most of them wound up in warehousing. Almost triple the pay, bennies, consistent schedules compared to the shite they had to deal with in the kitchens is every reason why theyre not going back to it. Can't blame them.

are you saying that the service industry isn’t raising hourly wages at all or isn’t raising them fast enough?

I think we need to bring more people into the country who bring value to society.

…..

I also think we need to kick some people out who bring negative value to society.

These people figured out the service industry sucks arse and found other jobs. The real problem is that we have WAY too many restaurants and it will only get worse as prices keep climbing. Eating out gets more and more prohibitively expensive as wages and food keep increasing.

I mean on a net profit/ margin basis it’s got to be almost impossible for a small restaurant to do this and not charge so much for food that you won’t buy from them

It’s a truly lose/lose situation when you stress it to this point

ell me where is a reasonable starting place to live in EBR for someone starting out making $45-55,000?

Ah yes, because you can’t go anywhere other than BR to make a living. And you certainly can’t live anywhere other than the BR metro. Who could possibly give up that jewel?

Oh frick off with this shite. You know damn well it’s not just the big bad expensive internet or your water bill. Or your electric bill. It’s your spending habits as well. If you can’t afford internet, you best figure out what else you don’t need so you can get it. Most everyone bitching about their expenses are trying to buy things out of their price range anyway. Spare me your broke dick whining.

This issue isn't just in the service industry. We've talked about this extensively in my organizational behavior class. This current workforce has figured out that life isn't all about working ourselves to death to enjoy a handful of years of freedom. People are leaving jobs that don't serve them, that don't provide flexible working arrangements, that are toxic work environments, that don't respect a work-family balance...I could really keep going on but you get the idea.
