Sounds like you are a shitty money manager. Live within your means and the “adjustments” aren’t as many or as noticeable.

But kudos to you on finding a better paying job and better opportunity.

Congratulations.
NO reason to have any loyalty to your employer in today's world. Thinking that 5% of them give a shite about their employees might be a gross exaggeration.

Costs go up. Wages stagnate or decrease. This isn't hard.

Tell me where is a reasonable starting place to live in EBR for someone starting out making $45-55,000?

Somethings outside the control of people are outrageously expensive. Do you know how expensive getting just internet is? Not cable, not phone, just internet?

No, but his job does. Why would anyone ever have loyalty to an employer? This is a transactional relationship. The highest bidder with the best benefit package and workplace environment wins. Sounds to me like the tables got turned and the employer’s are pissed they can’t abuse people for shite wages. If they are gonna work for shite wages it’s gonna be in the gig economy where they at least choose their schedule and have some semblance of work life balance.

I have a theory. Traditionally, a significant segment of the service industry was teenage, middle class children working their first job as a bus boy or cahier, etc. I know me and several friends did it in the 90's/early 00's. With the drastic increase in violence throughout the country, many parents are not allowing their children to go work a meaningless job while risking their lives for $10/hour or even $15/hour. I think it won't get better until wages increase across the board

Honestly, I'm starting to wonder if this will end.

Would you have been willing to pay twice as much if the service was twice as fast?

Yea- it’s weird. Jobs that require a bit of thinking on your feet with bad hours, low pay, and expectation to have guests abuse you have been slow to fill.

They will remain the last anyone wants to take

I don’t get it. It would stress me the hell out to change jobs all the time.

For decades employers have kept wages down. Decades.

How far back were employers paying more than they needed to?

I’ve worked 8 different positions for the same employer over 25 years. Huge mistake and my pay has suffered because of it. Everyone should quit their job for something better every 3-5 years.

Chili's is the new golf course, it's where business happens.

This is America, so when I read people saying that others don't want to work, I have to assume they spend very little time awake in reality. Working is in our DNA. It's all we know and we do it for so very little in return.

Not agreeing to break your back for terrible wages and work environments is not lazy. It's smart.

People rarely quit because of wages. They overwhelmingly quit due to terrible managers and/or work environment.

this may be true ... but it must be people that have co-inhabitants paying the bills (or their parents) because there's no way you can subsist on unemployment alone which is basically nothing considering inflation this long it's crazy

Think once the evictions work through the system it may help but I don't know

Ever considered we don’t have an employee shortage but instead have a glut of restaurants/grocers/retail stores?
