Went to dinner last night in Metry. Not going to name the place. 6:30 PM on a Monday night... hour wait for a table. Walking around... maybe 20% of tables in use. Obviously a staffing issue.

Finally get seated... in the bar area. Takes forever to get someone even over to take a drink order. Guy shows up... it's the bartender. One guy in charge of making drinks at the bar and waiting on the 7 tables in the bar area.

Super nice guy, food and drinks took FOREVER but he was constantly hustling between the bar, his tables and the kitchen to get food. Tipped him 30% because he deserved it.

Talking to him, he said they had one other server tonight, 1 busboy, and 2 cooks. Normally on a Monday night they would have 5-6 servers, 3-4 busboys, and 5-6 people in the kitchen.

Honestly, I'm starting to wonder if this will end.

A lot in NOLA seemed to move on to other cities or moved further up the supply chain to fill jobs.

Got away from the service part of the industry.

I’m a Probation and Parole Officer. We’ve had three Officers quit this month. All three young officers with a few years under their belts. They will not stick with a career at that age group.

We have a few older people (me) who are on their second careers. We have to literally do everything because we can’t keep certified officers to stay.

We’re even getting huge raises in a few months. Doesn’t matter. They quit anyway.

I’ve never seen anything like this in my life.

If that’s the case, good for them.

A reasonable chunk of service economy have found other ways to pay bills. Economy is going to have to adjust to these changes that were artificially fueled.

Why do they quit?

Because they don’t want to work. They’re too stupid to realize that they call it “work” for a reason.

Yes, it’s a very difficult occupation. No doubt about that. The payoff is occasionally doing something good. Job security, great benefits with a Pension.

They leave without viable plans.

Not gonna lie, that sounds pretty miserable. You realize there are jobs that pay the bills and then some that you don’t have to hate with more payoff than
