Economic activity is exceeding available workers. Worker shortage is an inflationary force. We have a legitimate need for increased regulated migrant labor.

Yet we have wide open borders with people who will only drain the system and not contribute

It’s madness at scale

Hold up a sec there. Before we open the floodgates, how about we do a cleansing of the welfare rolls and kick all the “disabled” people off the dole unless they truly can’t work. We have tons of low level job type people already here who refuse to do work that is “beneath them” or can’t keep a job because they’re too stoned/drunk/etc. all because Government handouts are pretty much the same or more than a minimum wage job.

There is also a huge lack of teenagers wanting part time jobs now. Not sure if their parents pay for everything or what but I see way fewer high school students working than I used to

How can high schoolers work when they are expected to maintain a GPA above 4.0 and do hours of homework daily just to get into a state school to earn a degree that puts them deep in debt and offers no usable training for the work force?

The ability to show up on time, follow instructions, and learning to get along with people you work with are all absolutely valuable training.

The disability benefits thing is huge. Social Security wasn't adequately funded even before large numbers of people were allowed to claim disability benefits.

That's just not what the agreement was between the American citizen and the federal government. The social security was for you to receive benefits in return for paying into the system for decades.

Absolutely massive. Being an anxious fatass with soda and Snickers induced diabetus is not a disability. SS Disability is probably a bigger issue than the “welfare queens on foodstamps ” that everyone loves to complain about.

Except it never was, because benefits were issued immediately when the system was created to people who had never paid in a dime. It's always been a giant fricking Ponzi scheme.

Agree that many people have received benefits without paying in. But what I want fixed is the decision to allow disability claims to be paid from this pool of money.

The remote chance most of us have of receiving a return on what we paid into the system goes to near zero if that's not eliminated

I'm starting to wonder if this will end.

When service jobs start to pay decent money that doesn't require an over reliance on tips.

So you need more workers that are willing to work for subpar wages and are hoping that immigrants will do that. And how do you feel about those foreign workers cohabitating and living next door to your home?

It's not the wages.. Electricians, Pipe fitters, welders. Even these jobs are ones that Americans aren't taking. Meanwhile these are people who want to work. What's more American than immigrants looking for work?

But even sheetrockers, carpenters, painters. They're here now and they work for cash. You know how much they pay in taxes? Whatever we can get in sales tax at the circle K.

Give them visas and fricking tax them like the government is taxing you and me.

The more diverse a country is, the worse off it is, by every metric.

Diversity is negatively correlated with every basic measure of social health.

Uber, door dash, OnlyFans, Sugar Babies, influencers, work from home customer service..all things that retail and restaurants used to not have to fight for and people in the same target groups. Employing 10s of thousands in some way.

None of the above is ascertained by being a college graduate now. Online portals have replaced lecture halls, Equity and political correctness have created an unrealistic environment and most importantly a liberal arts degree can still be purchased on govt grants and loans. I was quasi trolling you with my retort about high school students but there is a very real disparity between education and labor needs in this country. Trade school needs to be a bigger part of our toolbox for kids.
