I'm against all the fundraising bs. You sign your kid up for something, you pay for it.

So not only do you have to pay to get on the team

What do you get when you pay to get on the team? Where does that money go?

you have to work to support the team

What are they paying for that paying to get on the team doesnt already cover?

He’ll if I know. I know some travel ball coaches draw a salary. I would assume uniforms and some entry fees

I will guarantee that a month or so before the Cooperstown tournaments I will see shite for fundraisers

Man that's kind of a shame. I played in HS and back then the HS teams were made up of just the best athletes who had played in the local Y / rec leagues. Same for basketball. The vast majority had not received any private or professional coaching before junior high school team / high school team. And they certainly weren't travelling much to play.

I've seen a handful of really good players quit their HS teams so they can spend more time with the travel/showcase teams. Showcase ball gets you in front of a ton of college and pro scouts.

I’ve been playing around with you for the most part, but this is something that bothers me.. putting together and maintaining a baseball team of ANY age/skill level is a frickton of work for one or two people (usually the head coach).. I don’t EXPECT all parents to pitch in and help, but shite, it sure is nice for other people to pull some weight as well. I’m not just talking fundraising either - uniforms, field work (when necessary), working concession stands, etc is a lot of headaches and work for one person

Like how if they don't turn it into a career? Other than ripping the parents of a 9 year old off for hitting lessons.

Maybe you shouldn't ask me questions about my opinion if you are going to act like a douchebag when I answer them

What a stupid hot take

If you’re gonna make an argument, at least try to support your argument

This comment will get bashed but it's the truth. If your kid wants to play in high school and not just sit the bench for 3 or 4 years, i strongly recommend lessons and some travel ball
Chances are, unless you or a relative went professional, junior ain't making the show anyway.

It's all for fun, and if baseball doesn't work out. There's always track, cross country, quiddich, and whatever other HS socialization activity in which they can participate.

Pissing away money that equates to roughly several years of college tuition to upgrade their HS baseball experience is one of the dumbest arguments I've heard on the subject.

I don’t really give a frick, the fundraising and huge time commitment on the entire family’s part was always my biggest thing

I’m sure my son will end up playing because of it

It’s not about you enjoying it anyway. It’s about your kid enjoying it and allowing them to have fun. It teaches some good life lessons to go along with it too. No I don’t have kids. But if they want to do that who am I to not allow them.
