Expand on no clue what’s going on?

I went to a friends daughter's rec league softball game and there were many on her team that just decided at 9-10 they wanted to play softball for the first time. It was a shiteshow. No clue what was going on out there.

Admittedly that is my only experience with Rec leagues but when I hear people complain about them it matches my experience.

They didn’t have that shite back then. We had all stars and after that was over we played like 3 tournaments, it was 1 year and it was when we were 12 or 13, not 8

Girls waiting until 9 to start softball...the horror? Do they make small little softballs for infants to play with?

I’m around baseball a lot. I’m heavily involved with the ‘travel ball’ age and I haven’t seen or talked to one person that sends their kids to training/lessons year round... I’m sure it’s possible, but I think that this is just an OT exaggeration. Go figure

I have friends who have kids in one of 3 organizations that I know of that play 6 months a year and practice the rest

No, I was responding to the poster comparing golf lessons for his friends to 9-12 year olds taking year round hitting lessons

so a 9-12 year old taking weekly piano lessons is not weird but a 9-12 year old taking baseball lessons is weird.

that is where we are folks.

There is nothing wrong with it but if your daughter is way ahead of that then Tournament Team is the only option.

Do they travel and beg for money? Then no thanks

If they want to do travel ball i’ll pay their way, but I’m not doing shite for fundraising

Did playing travel ball make them the better players

In most cases, yes. They play against better competition and get better coaching.

Sure. And they get even better.

same here..we had all stars from the rec league...you played a district tournament, then regional then if you won regional you went to state...that;s about it. Once we got a little older there was the Legion team.

Kids have so many more choices to play on different teams at different levels. I dont see how thats a bad thing for the kids..

Now, I am fed up with the "its all about the money" bullshite from USSSA and OTC...and all the other spinoffs that are in it just for the money....but oh well, more power to them

My son gets pitching lessons from a former pro. I think it benefits him.

So is this about fun, or is it about them being good?

I’ll tell you this, on the weekends when they don’t win the tournament, there’s usually not a Facebook mention to be found

How did you arrive at this conclusion from reading anything I've posted in this thread? The post you quoted even had me explaining what I was comparing

I was joking. My son could shoot the ball off of the kickoff, in soccer, directly into the goal at age 9...it was time to move on.

I get it. Same was true when I was a kid. For better or worse, things are different today.
