I’m not against this. I’m not against the kids getting better

Meh. (Wtf, don’t think I’ve ever posted that gay shite before)

My main (and probably only major) gripe about travel ball is that most of the time, they just play games, and don’t really practice**.

For example, one of the best travel teams in my area is ran by a guy I know who’s never played high school ball before.. he’s basically just a team organizer and finds tourneys for them to play in. I asked one of the parents how many times they practice, and he said MAYBE ten times in two years..

I’m sure every situation is different though, maybe someone else has a different opinion

I am against it for my family but I don't care what others do.

You all try too hard with this. My kid played, had a hitting coach and has several Marucci bats. He's damn good too.

And his name is Fred.

I doubt it, they’re a serious soccer club. The kids play right and compete well against the larger cities. Always top 5 in the state at the highest level. We’ve enjoyed when my son’s played them through the years. We’ve been down to their tournaments as well. Love the accents down there...and some of those moms are so darn cute.

How old are they? Do they play on their school 5th-6th grade teams or their middle school teams?

When they’re constantly asking me for money to get into a prestigious tournament (where the only qualification is a check), I care

Then associate with better people

I’m pretty sure you’re blowing this out of proportion though lol

I guess I should have worded it differently, I was trying to say that "no" he was misunderstanding me.

But while I'm on the subject a 9 year old taking hitting lessons every week of the year is not the same as a 9 year old taking piano classes IMO. Deal with it

So is this about fun, or is it about them being good?

Most of the boys my son grew up around would rather play sports than anything else. They enjoy competition.

Sure, there are a few kids who are miserable because their parents force them to do something they don't enjoy but that happens in every extracurricular activity.

FFS, this RARELY happens

But while I'm on the subject a 9 year old taking hitting lessons every week of the year is not the same as a 9 year old taking piano classes

Why?

I guess I don't have to deal with that. My buddies have never asked me for money.

I literally dont know any teams that are constantly asking for money to play in weekend tournaments that only cost $400 at the most to enter

Now I can see if they are going to Cooperstown or Pigeon Forge, etc and want to do a fundraiser......as long they are selling something or giving you something back in return...I dont see the problem with helping out.

Our first year of travel ball is 2/3 over and I can’t wait to go back to Rec ball and all stars.
