what are the property taxes on that condo? I bet that alone eats up most of his salary.

Why is this a story? A person with 11k in student loans could manage on 50k salary. It's not due in a year. IBR is a joke.

Anyone can live comfortably on 50k when you don't have to pay rent or a mortgage and you have a 500k cushion

Wait, are we pretending his dad doesn't pay for that too?

11k in student loans is nothing. They’d let you pay less than $100 a month on it

That's probably true. I hope the dad is paying gift taxes on all this - otherwise son just put him in a bit of a bind with the IRS.

See? That's all you need to live in NYC: a father so wealthy he can buy you a $4M condo and give you a nice $500k pool of starting money. So simple.

And now he can benefit the world with his Art History degree.

ive seen this article format a lot recently. headline makes it seem like the person is living some frugal lifestyle, body of article reveals wealthy parents. so, in the end, absolutely no point to the article other than to agitate regular people. what are we supposed to glean from this other than some 23 year old is flexing on us

eta- same with coverage of outlandish niche woke shite, etc. so much of media seems designed to be reacted to and doesnt touch on any real-world issues

I don’t think he posted this out of jealousy. It’s to point out how ridiculous the headline is in comparison to actual facts.

I bet that kid can’t keep a windowsill cactus alive in NYC on $50K a year.

There is a HUGE lifetime exemption on gift taxes. Rich people know this and use it, farmers don't and their kids have to sell the farm to pay death taxes.

Father thought it was teaching his son to pay for his own education and being responsible in paying it back.
