You can’t do this now? I did this regularly less than 5 years ago before meeting my wife

Enjoy legroom on an airplane

Keep a five dollar bill in my purse to fill my car's tank.
Go to National Airport in DC and wander to see the people getting on and off the planes.
Collect glass soft drink bottles for spending money
Run to catch a plane with no security to slow us down.
Watch turboprop engines at night on a transatlantic flight.
Have tea served in china cups from a silver tea pot on AirCanada in economy class.
McDonald's french fries were cooked in beef fat that had flavor.
Jackie Kennedy was a style icon and girls wanted to dress like her.
It was safe to play hide n seek until after dark many block from your home and then walk home alone.
Family relationships mattered. You knew your cousins out to the 2nd and 3rd level and you knew your best friends families too
Not much air conditioning, lots of fans
Houses had trees for shade.
Most TVs were black and white. If friends bought a color tv Disney and Bonanza on sunday nights were a magnet for those houses.
Boys were lusting after Mouseketeer Annette who grew up and took her assets and started staring in surfer movies.

You could do this in the 90s. I was stupidly driving after drinking in like 1996 and was pulled over. The cop told me to go home. No ticket, no DUI - nothing.
2004 in lafayette, our designated driver could not get her moms suburban out of the spot.
Cops finally got pissed and walked over thinking she was drunk and realized she was stupid.
Cop "who's been drinking?"
Suburban "YOOOOOOO!"
Cop "....who is fricking sober enough to drive and get this fricking thing off my street?"
Me "...if I have your word I'm not going to be in trouble, I'm that fricking guy"

Thought the guy was going to give me a medal.

As far as the cost of things:
Buy a whole grocery basket full of food and spend about $35 out the door.
Buy a new car for the cost of a small motorcycle today. Buy a house for the cost of a mid-size car today.
Fill up your gas tank with a $10 bill and get change back.
Buy a plate lunch in a sit down restaurant for the cost of a Vente Latte from Starbucks.
Pick up 2 cartons of cigarettes for the cost of 1 pack today.
Buy a 35 lb. sack of crawfish or a 100 lb. sack of oysters for $10.

I remember flying commercial without pre-flight security screening.
Seems like a crazy dream.

Pocket knives? Back then you could put a few rifles and/or shotguns in your gun rack in the back window of your truck and people who pulled up would just admire your nice guns instead of calling the cops and getting you beaten up by a SWAT team as they pull you out.

I remember parking and arriving at my gate within 20-30 minutes even with all of the walking at ORD.

Ahh, I see. We’re doing that thing where we pretend shite is still just as bad today as it was many years ago to keep the grifting going. Just like lynching and maga people in Chicago beating up Jussie smollet… lol

Hitchhike.
Have sex without worry of dying from a disease.
Meet girls in bars and take them home with you.
Voice your opinion without having it stifled.
Coexist with people of different races.
Only thing on this list that applies is hitch hiking. Everything else is still normal.

Watch a movie that was not remade 100 times, to make everyone one who identifies as something have a part in it.
