The average American household has almost 20k more in disposable income purchasing power compared to that of a person in the UK.

It's not even close. Way higher wages in the United States, way less taxes, no 20% VAT on consumer goods, no 8 dollar a gallon gasoline.

The UK is a poor nanny state.
Disposable Income by Country

United States* 54,854.3
Luxembourg 49,860.7
Switzerland 43,062
Australia 42,547.5
Germany 42,433.1
Norway 40,742.7
Austria 38,726
Netherlands 38,552.5
Belgium 37,925.7
France 37,335.6
Canada 37,171.3
Denmark 35,849.2
Finland 35,536.3
United Kingdom 35,349.8

People who champion the UK have never ventured out of London or the South East part of the country. The rest of the country is destitute and run down.

If the UK was a state it would be a bottom 5 state as far as GDP per Capita below Alabama and Louisiana.

Those are tangible facts not opinions.

UK GDP per Capita= 40,284.64 USD. That's good for about 47th or 48th place .

A South African amazed how poor the UK is

Yeah, my wife went there for a wedding. Spent 10 days there.
Other than London, it all seemed like lower middle class. She enjoyed is and the people but it was different than here.

Your link was to a generic web page. Can you define "disposable income" please?

Its Statista. Direct stats from OECD. Disposable income is gross income after taxes and deductions. It's adjusted for purchasing power in $USD.

I copied and pasted the numbers if you can't view them without a subscription.

People have no idea how low the salaries in the UK are.

The median salary for an Registered Nurse is 33k pounds sterling or 37-38k $USD. The average Registered Nurse in Louisiana is 70k. The average in California is 124k.

I lived in Europe in Germany and the Netherlands.

Living in Europe is like living in New York or California on an Alabama salary. shite is miserable.

Only dumb liberals romanticize life in Europe.

Cool place to visit for a couple weeks. It's an awful place to try to create a life unless you have already generated wealth somewhere else.

Don't get me wrong, I am not romanticizing Europe. I'm just trying to de-romanticize America. I think there is more to those numbers.

Then again, if the average citizen in America has 50k in "disposable income," then there needs to be some serious palm to cheek action in this country. I think the need is already here, but that would certainly amplify it.

That's the average American household. Not necessarily 1 person. Lots of households have more than 1 income.

We have a lower cohabitation rate than the UK meaning we have more 1 income households and so the numbers are worse than they actually show.

Those numbers include their national insurance tax for the NHS, which is free at the point of service, but the average American household isn't spending the 20k difference on insurance premiums and healthcare.

They afford universal healthcare by paying slave wages. Nurses flee the UK every year for the US, Australia, Canada.

We lived in Heidelberg, Hamburg, and Rotterdam for 3 and a half years in the mid 2000s when the Euro was about 1.30 now that it's even to a dollar. I couldn't even imagine how poor those people are now. The British Pound was over $2 dollars during the bush administration now it's only $1.14.

They all cope with being poor by saying Americans live to work and they have more vacation time and workers rights like longer paid maternity leave etc.

It's all a coping mechanism for people that are uncompetitive and materially poor.

Europeans have an extreme inferiority complex when it comes to Americans even worse than Canadians. Lots awful people there that would love nothing more than to see our country fail.

Serving a pint:

Order a pint in an American bar, and you get 16 oz of beer.

Order a pint in an English pub, and you get 20 oz of beer.

This is the correct answer, I would say rock and roll to be more specific.

At least 75% of the rock bands I currently listen to are British.
