This exists?!
yep. there's a camera in the check out screen and one right above you as you're at the register.

You can literally walk out of that store with a large screen television, and they won't do a damn thing to stop you.
The Gonzales Walmart always has Gonzales PD there arresting some crack head shoplifter.

frick Walmart employees. Bunch of lazy, rude pieces of shite who literally cannot be bothered to lift a single finger unless it involves being rude to a customer. Should’ve told her to go frick herself and told her to quit taking her $8/hour job so seriously
That’s a pretty wild generalization and not true of the Walmart that I shop at occasionally.

You have to walk out of the store before they accuse you.
Negative. You do not have to leave the store to be convicted of theft but it sure does help prove the case for the prosecutor which is why the store will let you go outside. But some stores will stop you inside.
But I would also just leave the items there and just walk out.

I was in self-checkout, doing my thing, when the self-checkout monitor lady came over, pushed me aside, entered her code into my screen and watched the video of me bagging my goods.
I would have left all my shite right where it was and walked out.
That's ridiculous.

That's actually kind of impressive.
I once got cash back but it shorted me $20. I told the cashier that, she told some other lady, who told somebody else over the walkie talkie. She said they were going to review the video.
About one minute later they told her I was shorted $20. She did some things on the screen and it spit out another $20 for me.
It was perhaps the only good experience I've ever had at Walmart.

You can sue anyone for anything I suppose, but you can't be seriously suggesting that Walmart was in the wrong by protecting its assets.
If Walmart is that worried about their assets then get rid of the self checkout and hire some employees.

Subtle "I can scan my own items at Walmart with 100 percent accuracy" thread

I went to Walmart (trashy, I know) to get some quick groceries. I was in self-checkout, doing my thing, when the self-checkout monitor lady came over, pushed me aside, entered her code into my screen and watched the video of me bagging my goods.

Depends on the state I guess. In Florida, the act of concealing it in the store or moving it beyond the scanner on the register (which seems like what walderp thought OP did) are both "stealing it". Not sure about LA

Sorry this happened - but it’s that time of year where they will go after the wrong person while three thieves are walking out the door with more expensive items

Ok. Baton Rouge Walmart employees then. Congrats on living in a city that isn’t a shithole
I’m jealous

I’ve accidentally gotten away with shoplifting a couple times from self checkout. What happened is I wasn’t paying attention an set a bag of checked out goods on top of a canned good I didn’t scan yet and didn’t notice it until I got to my truck

I’m going to State a few things that may be obvious to some. Wall Mart is not what it was 30 years ago. Wall Mart used to stock a large variety of products, not so now. Their products used to be of a better quality. They have raised their prices after destroying most of the competition. In a nutshell the company sucks and I avoid it and recommend that others do to. Also they treat their employees poorly.
