Im sorry but what is the point of driving trails like this? You really can't appreciate the views because you are having to keep your eye on the road the whole time. It isn't really a fun ride while bouncing around the whole time. Also, why should insurance cover vehicle damage in such a situation? Sounds like you accept the inherent danger by choosing to do it.

It would be more of experience to hike or ride a horse through that country.

That isn’t a trail for vehicles that this guy is on. He should not have been on it with his truck. It’s an exhilarating thrill to do 4x4 trails like BlackBear and Imogene pass that test your skills. The views when you stop are incredible.

What gets there to do that and how?

You carry the gear to recover yourself or you don't go.

Winch, some land anchors, a sledge, a shovel, and recovery straps.

well the driver is an arse clown that was driving on a trail that wasn't meant to be driven on.

But i do agree with you that even driving the ones that are driveable, it's such a butt clinching experience you don't really get to enjoy the views. I've driven a few, and i've been a passenger. Much much much much rather be the passenger, even though i'm the kind of guy that always wants to be the driver so that i'm in control.
You finish a drive like that and you dont realize the amount of anxiety your body was enduring that entire time until you finally are able to relax yourself, and then you can actually feel your heart relax and you feel the soreness in your hands from gripping the steering wheel.

My thoughts exactly.

I wonder how often off-roaders got stuck or crashed on trails like that before social media.

People buy at AT4 and think they’re invincible. Reminds me of the guys who buy raptors and think they can hit backroads at 100 mph like they have a trophy truck.

This will be a good YouTube / TV commercial.

This is the same thing I was saying. If you’ve ridden stuff like this you understand how close this thing is to going down the mountain.

The only thing I hate more than people who go on trails they don't belong on...are mislabeled trails.

2nd time I was ever in MOAB some prick labeled airport hill as cool for a stock suv. I was in a first generation xterra, one of the most capable factory SUVs on slickrock ever made.

Hit the top of the hill and had a 1ft rock ledge and a second 1ft rock ledge 6ft away. Cliff edge to the right. Wall to the left. And 450 ft down behind me. Would have needed 24in of ground clearance to not get hung up and bounce.

I managed to back down without dying.

Took that same SUV on poison spider a year later with no issues.

I never needed a witness to do something questionable or dangerous behind the wheel.

Right. That’s what I’m asking. It’s obvious this arse clown didn’t come so prepared, so I’m trying to figure out how anything can get positioned above him such that he could be winched uphill. Seems like an almost impossible task at this point.

True And I'm glad we didn't have cellphone cameras or location tracking back then.

Moab is a great place for off roading. Been there 5 times with my 2012 4x4 canyon. Ledges are a problem avoided by backing out

That offroad wrecker is pretty sweet as well. Killing it with that business and YouTube videos.

That stuff is very loose and will just start sliding down the slope. That’s why they’re stuck because if that stuff starts sliding down the truck will go with it.

I’ve climbed on foot up terrain like that with smaller rocks chasing elk and it was one of the most treacherous incidents I’ve had in the mountains ( the other being a pack horse wreck near a drop off) - it’s like marbles under your feet

Recommended recovery vehicle (18k fly max operating altitude):
