Why 2? It should be one. No excuse for drinking and driving.
Same for having your phone in your face.

I ask this everytime, but do any one of the extremists on this thread feel that texting while driving should get the same punishment?

Getting one is not an "accident" or an "oopsie,' getting one means you have a problem with alcohol. Getting two means you're a full-blown alcoholic in need of treatment. 3 means you need to be in jail.

You can't be serious. 2 beers gets you a dwi

Yes, I'm serious and don't call me Shirley.

For real, though, if you have two beers you are impaired. Like it or not, no matter how much you feel in control of your capacity, you are impaired. Getting behind the wheel of a 2+ ton piece of machinery that goes 100 miles an hour is a pure gamble, and means you make problematic decisions when you drink.

This is coming from someone who got behind the wheel for YEARS after having "just a few.' Looking back on it, I thank Baby Jesus in velvet diapers that I never injured someone after I'd had "just a few" or my arse would be in Angola.

drive drunk in china, you lose you license. 0.02 BAC is limit. often there is jail time involved too. they take it very seriously and I think thats the correct way. I have zero sympathy for for someone who drinks alcohol and drives.

Yep, penalties need to be way stiffer here than they are. Same for people with their phones in front of their face driving.

So on their second chance they kill one of your loved ones. You ok with that or it’s ok as long as it’s someone else’s family.

The problem with DUI's today is there's no regard for actual life safety, and every regard for weekend fundraising operations. In my experience local sheriffs like going after folks who had two beers on a Saturday night, and then claiming they are hazards to public safety. The ability to pay also raises the likelihood of arrest.

DWI laws are not about public safety. They are about revenue collection.

I remember a guy who had 7 DWIs. That happened back in 90s-2000s. How he managed to not get sent to the big house I have no clue. Sad.

More than 1, just throw their arse in jail forever because they’ve proven they’re incapable of not making poor decisions. That’s your idiot tax.

Wouldn’t trust a breathalyzer with a chance at life in prison.

Self driving cars will be a big help in reducing this.
