The tree is over 2,000 years old
quote:
Firefighters are wrapping fire-resistant blankets around ancient trees as blazes tear through California's world-famous Sequoia National Park.
Officials fear the fire could reach the Giant Forest, a grove of some of the world's biggest trees, within hours.
The forest hosts some 2,000 sequoias, including the 275ft (83m) General Sherman, the biggest tree by volume on Earth and about 2,500 years old.
The Colony and Paradise fires have been growing for a week.
More than 350 firefighters, along with helicopters and water-dropping planes, have been mobilised to battle the blazes.
They have wrapped several trees, including the General Sherman, with aluminium foil to protect them.

Is that all the foil they put on it?

Flames have to start at roots and work their way up. These are the rules.

Ahhhh, liberals. No logging, no brush clearing, no prescribed fires, we must save trees = tree killing wild fires.

I'm guessing because Sequoias are extraordinarily fire-resistant trees by nature. Some might say dependent. They require the heat from fire to germinate.
Also the Sherman thing haha.

It won't survive liberalism.

If it was named general Lee they would have cut it down and burned it already

Irregardless of name, if they lose trees in that national park it would be a shame

Sorry, it's my fault. I ran my generator for 6 days after Ida in Louisiana.

Hmm......wonder how many fires those trees survived before we came along and started saving them from every wildfire that happened to start?

I never would have guessed that they put foil around trees to save them during fires. It makes some logical sense as it would protect the bark from the actual flames but I would've figured that the added heat would also cause major damage. That's very interesting.
