And our society barely talks about them. Both probes’ missions were scheduled to last only a few years and both are still going almost 50 years later. And Voyager 1 is the farthest man made object from Earth.

The team that designed and built those marvels (and the ones maintaining the probes) should be celebrated.

inb4 ‘Uranus’

Bonus: If our space travel abilities advance to the point that we can bring them back, should we? Or, build museums around the probes as they travel through space?

The core mission.

The designed mission was to do what it is currently doing. Otherwise they wouldn’t have put so much plutonium in it to last this long.

Which by the way is in the death rattles. In the next year or two they expect to have to shut off the last scientific instruments. They expect to seek getting engineering telemetry till it hits the range of the Deep
Space Network.

Agree

I was a little kid when they launched and remember being fascinated by it all.

"The Farthest" documentary did a really good job of telling the story including the music they chose for the soundtrack.

A very good, but long, technical documentary of the Voyager 1&2 programs and their travels through space.

One of my family members (I think he's a second cousin or something, but I just call him an uncle because he's a super cool guy) actually worked on the Voyager 1. Cool story bro I know, but he was able to point himself out on a picture of engineers at the Boeing museum.

I already saw this movie. It comes back as V’Ger and threatens to wipe us all out.

And our society barely talks about them
--What is there to talk about? After the pix of the outer planets 30 years ago, there's not much to say.
